Ok, if that many illegals were arrested who have prior convictions, imagine the ratio elsewhere...

Build a damn Great Wall of China along the US/Mexico border and line it with sharpshooters already!

(CNN) -- Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have arrested nearly 400 illegal immigrants -- including 347 with prior criminal convictions -- over a three-day operation throughout the Midwest, the agency announced Friday.

The arrests in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Kansas, Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska were part of the agency's "Cross Check" operations that began in 2009 and are being held across the country.

"We are doing more than ever to prevent people from coming here illegally and we're doing more than ever to focus on those criminal aliens who are threatening our public safety," said Gail Montenegro, a spokeswoman for ICE's Chicago, Illinois, office.

Of the 370 people arrested this week, more than half of them had prior convictions for serious violent crimes such as armed robbery, drug trafficking and aggravated assault.

"These are crimes that have been committed here in the United States," Montenegro told CNN Radio. "They have criminal convictions for criminal conduct that they have committed here in the United States.

"We used a number of different leads," she said. "We tracked individuals with information we had available in our databases. We worked with other law enforcement and used information they had as well to develop our target lists."

Some of those arrested were affiliated with gangs or convicted of sexual crimes against minors. More than 50 were immigration fugitives who had outstanding deportation orders, the agency said.

The operation, which ended Thursday, was the largest of its kind for the agency, according to ICE.

"ICE is focused on arresting convicted criminals who prey upon our communities, and tracking down fugitives who scoff at our nation's immigration laws," ICE Director John Morton said in a statement. "The results of this operation demonstrate ICE's commitment to those principles."

347 / 400 = 0.8675

86.7% with prior convictions. I guess disregard for immigration laws is no big deal to these criminal leeches.

I wonder what the percentage on welfare is?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Boys... They were concentrating on illegals with criminal backgrounds... Don't get too excited by the numbers with criminal backgrounds.

This percentage could be attributed to domestic arrests also. Much more than half of the US citizens arrested during this same period had prior convictions. The problem here is, we do not keep criminals in jail. Their country of citizenship makes no difference. If someone is convicted of a crime, keep them in prison until they serve their term. It really is a stupid comparison. You are comparing the recidivism rate of criminals to that of law abiding citizens (of either country). It workls for people inclined to believe a certain "thing", but that is all.

It is similar to the liberals tactic of saying a gun is more likely to kill a member of family than to kill a burglar. True. This compares accident rates with burglars killed. Stupid. It also assumes a gun cannot prevent a crime without killing someone...preposterous. To assume that ALL, or ANY illegal alien is a criminal because 50% of illegal aliens ARRESTED had a prior conviction...it is just stupid. I can just as easily say that 57% of AMERICAN citizens arrested this weekend have a prior conviction. Obviously we need to kick out Americans from America! Build a fence, kick them over it and keep them out because "most Americans are criminals"

Walls are meaningless. END the economic incentive to be here. Punish the people that hire illegal aliens with business-ruining penalties and the practice will stop. How do you fell about punishing BUSINESS that hires illegal aliens, Paul?

Please, Paul, tell me you are not buying into this.

Walls, maybe. But securing the border and stemming the influx of illegal immigrants is an essential tool in the whole enforcement regimen. Cut off the future supply of dirt cheap illegal labor for these companies at the same time you're hitting them with financial penalties that make it untenable to continue hiring illegal immigrants. And the illegal immigrants you catch, however you catch them, need to be returned to the countries of which they are citizens. You can't make one element work in isolation.

1. End the economic incentive and you have ended 90% of the problem. We have no problem with illegal immigration from Canadians in Canada and their citizens are free to go back and forth as they please because there is no economic incentive for them to stay beyond having dinner, going to a doctor without waiting for many weeks or avoiding paying the 15% sales tax to pay for the doctors they have to wait weeks to see.

2. Our border security will then be able to concentrate on the other 10%

3. We don't need a fence. Most of the border with Canada is indistinquishable. We could go for a walk near my house, walk into Quebec and never even know we crossed a border.

4. I agree that illegal aliens "caught" need to be returned to their country. The ones already here will self-deport when they lose thier jobs because the US copmanies can no longer line their pockets by exploiting illegals and avoiding our labor and wage laws.
