Happy new year to everyone... wishing for all the vj'ers who are still waiting for their interviews to be approved soon!

I had my interview today, it went fairly easy. Got to the Charlotte USCIS office at 1:35(appt at 1:45). It was a fairly slow day so there were only about 5-6 applicants for the N-400 interview. An officer called me, she went through all the 10 pages of the N-400, verifying every single question. I got a small delay, since I thought I had listed all the travels I've had in the last years, but it didn't print! I told the officer all the dates I've traveled, since the immigration guys in Frankfurt are very well organized, and they stamp the passport by page and the In-Out stamps are next to each other (go German organization!).

After that, the officer asked me to write down a question (from the study guide). Then she asked me to repeat a question from the guide out loud. After that she asked me the random 5 questions from the guide, and that was it. I went to the waiting room, and got my letter for the oath! easy peasy!

Thank you for the well wishes Ja Tam.

I had my interview this morning. I arrived at the USCIS office in Orlando 30 minutes before my appointment, but the building wasn’t open yet. After waiting 10 minutes I was the first person to get in. In my head I was thinking, I’ve heard is never a good thing to be the first or last person when it come to anything …. =)

Once inside the building we were required to go thru a security checkpoint similar to airports. I had to take my shoes and belt off. Once inside I was ask to place my interview letter at a desk and wait to be called. I probably waited 20 minutes before I was called. The officer was nice but professional. He sword me in and started going thru my application. He would ask specific questions about the information provided in the application. I was surprised that he asked about my previous marriage as I was applying based on 5 Year Residency. He asked how I met my ex wife, how long we were married, etc. He had my original file with all previous applications, so he could se everything that I ever submitted.

I was very nervous, not due to the information, but about the Civics test =). At one point I told him I was nervous and he ask if there was a reason I was nervous about? I told him the truth, that I don’t like tests and was not looking forward to the Civics questions. Anyways once he was done going thru the application he continued to the civics test. I don’t remember all the questions, but here are a few that I was asked:

What is one promise you make when you become a USC?

Who is the Governor of your state?

Where is the Statue of Liberty Located?

Name two US holidays?

Following he asked me to read and write a sentence. Once that was done he told me Congratulations, and that he will be recommending me for approval and told me that a letter will be sent by the mail. Then he said that they are having an Oath on Friday and asked me if I want to be a part of it. I told him of course =) . He then told to wait outside, he will pass the file to a Supervisor for approval.

That’s it. I have my Oath on Friday. Glad is almost over. Good luck to everyone of you and thanks for all the good advise in this forums

Sweet!!!! Got some movement at last. So how long does it usually take to get this email to the time you get the interview date? Reason I ask is because my wife and I are planning a trip to visit her native Cambodia on March 3rd. We still have her Cambodian passport she can travel with but prefer to use the US Passport instead. The grandparents wants to see our baby.

Hi Mariel,

well i just had my interview this morning and i passed it. it took about almost an hour before they called my name. silly me missed 1 question that even a 5th grader can answer!! lol! anyway, io is pretty nice and it only took about 10 mins for the whole thing. the questions that were asked are the ff:

who is the supreme court justice?

every how many years do we elect a rep?

which month do we vote for president?

name a war fought by the US in the 1900's

what does the judicial branch do?

how many reps do we have?

who is the father of our country?

got milk?

i missed the 2nd question unfortunately (i answered 6 years and i didnt know where the hell it came from!).. then she had me read and write a sentence.. after more yadda yaddas, she finally congratulated me and handed me a letter that i passed the interview and she said i should wait for about a couple of weeks for the oath taking. parking is $10 and its about a block away from the Federal building.. it was a good experience and you just really have to be confident. Good luck to you and i hope we get the same oath date which is feb 16 i believe.

Hi Everyone,

So today I went in for my interview. I got in 45 minutes early, seeing how my appointment was at 10:30 am. We waited and waited and waited and then at 11:30 I was finally called in.

The IO was nice...... He sat me down, tried to get his computer to work but then made me stand up to take my oath. We sat down again and right away we went into the civics questions:

1) How many US Senators are there?

2) At what age do men enter for selective service

3) What is the capital of United States?

4) What is the ocean on the east coast?

I am sorry I can't remember the other 2 questions but I will post them once I remember.

My interview took an HOUR.... yes you read that right. The IO was nice and had a story for everything. Even while going through form, he would ask me a question and then jump right back into some story.

Now that I think back, I feel like some of his comments and stories really had no place in an interview. At times I felt like I was being baited to say something negative. I don't want to go in the specifics but he kinda smiled through the whole thing, I just feel like some of his comments were inappropriate and dare I say racist.

He went through every single piece of evidence I had. Then he wanted to see my life insurance with my husband, which I did not bring. I am very very ####### so I am not sure why I didn't bring it but I had a lot of other stuff.

That took a long time. Then he told me well... the thing that really saves you is that you have a child because most people don't go through extremes to fake a marriage with a child. I just nodded my head.

He has sent my forms off for approval but he said I was not out of the woods yet. Someone had to look it over, do more background checks, then come and consult with him and THEN they both have to agree on my file. As per him if I have God Forbid done something illegal, then the armed forces, marines, interpol and what not would come after me. He then smiled and I said ... no God Forbid that will not happen.

So now I impatiently wait to be approved cause the guys has me freaked out. I wanted to share to make sure you are all aware of these kinds of interviews.
