I'll bet a lot of people don't believe she has a rare disease and assume she's bulimic or anorexic. I wonder if her condition could used to make some sort of weight loss treatment the way an individual has some kind of rare immunity to a disease can be a key to research.

Saw a documentary about her a while ago. It's amazing the amount of conditions we have no idea about, and how these people are unique in their ailment and learn to live positively despite that.

Although one of the symptoms of this syndrome is an inability to store lipids normally, some of the other symptoms are accelerated aging and bone and cartilage deformation. While the exact cause isn't known, it is suspected to involve a defect in DNA repair.

In short, it would be a very unlikely candidate for research as a method of weight control. That said, people have probably tried stranger methods of weight loss.
