What an awesome thread ! I really enjoyed looking at those pics, especially the ones with cars in them. Thank you, OP!

Yeah, these are too cool. You can pick out the rich kids in the school photos because they have shoes.

I know I had some uncles who went to school and worked in the fields without shoes back in the early 30's.

I grew up in East Texas in the late '50s early '60s. There were still folks then that only came into town via mule.

I think you must be my age, but anyway one of my uncles still used a team of draft horses up until he died a few years ago to clear out wooded areas.

Yes, there were advantages to those beasts. I remember while working on the tractor in the field my grandfather saying something like 'wouldn't be problem with the mule.' [Yeah, and wouldn't be 1/10th done now either. :D )

Hard to picture that era in anything other than black and white. B/W movies and photos made a big impression. Gave it a simplicity that went with seeing people who had a lot less materially than what we have now.

I feel my soul tugged at a bit when I look at those photos. An era in which I feel I should have lived in.

eh, I'm more like "Red" from 'That 70's Show' if anything or "Becker" from 'Becker.' Those are characters I identify with lol.

Really though I would have liked to have seen the 1920's in all seriousness and then the mid-to-late 40's as well.

The gap between rich and poor wasn't that much in the towns (exception the Railroad barons and bootleggers). I'd like to go back and observe too but always with the ability to combe back to my A/C home.

Most people lived on farms in the '20s. The '40s called upon our (at least mine) parents to become "The Greatest Generation". Someone needed to literally save the world from evil and they did it! At great cost in $ and lives. They defeated two modern empires at the same time on opposite sides of the world. They did it all with humility and an appreciation to be part of something bigger than themselves.

Top That Batman!
