Does anything need to be notarized for AOS interview?

Hi all,

I'd appreciate some help here. I have researched with conflicting results. For the AOS interview, do I bring originals of everything-- marriage license, taxes, bills, photos, etc-- as well as copies of everything? And do any of the copies have to be notarized? What about the original marriage certificate?

07/01/2010 - I-485, I-765 and I-130 sent to Chicago lock box
07/03/2010 - package signed for in Chicago
07/12/2010 - text and email notification received
07/17/2010 - hard copy NOA1s received in mail
07/19/2010 - received biometrics letter (scheduled for August 12th)
07/22/2010 - unsuccessful walk-in biometrics in Brooklyn
07/28/2010 - successful walk-in biometrics in Brooklyn
08/24/2010 - EAD card approved (54 DAYS)
08/31/2010 - I-765 touched, post decision activity, email notification of EAD approval
09/01/2010 - I-765 touched
09/03/2010 - EAD card received
09/21/2010 - Interview Date! 9:45 am. APPROVED (83 DAYS). I-551 Stamp.
09/21/2010 - Card/ Document Production
09/29/2010 - Welcome letter received
10/01/2010 - Green Card Received!!! Exactly 3 months smile.png

08/18/2012 - ROC filed (Vermont)
09/04/2012 - NOA date
10/12/2012 - Bio appointment
05/02/2013 - RFE
07/15/2013 - ROC Interview at local (New York City) office, told we would be notified of decision by mail in 60 days
08/02/2013- Case status updated, production of new card ordered!
08/05/2013- InfoPass appointment at Holtsville Long Island, passport stamped with I-551
08/06/2013- Card mailed
08/08/2013- 10 year green card received!!! 10 days short of one year from applicationdancin5hr.gif

You should bring the originals. A lot of people are making a copy of the AoS package and keeping it for their personal record and/or a back up in case the first one gets lost. I think most people also bring this AoS copy to the interview.

As for notarized copies, I don't think anything needs to be notarized. Your marriage certificate (original) already has a seal on it (or it should anyway).

11/07/10 ------- AoS Package received and singed for

11/10/10 ------- NOA1 received for I-130, I-485 and I-765 (emails)

11/12/10 ------- NOA1 received for I-130, I-485 and I-765 (hard copies)

11/12/10 ------- Touches on I-130, I-485 and I-765

11/19/10 ------- Biometrics appointment letter received

12/06/10 ------- RFE for I-693 (I think the issue is that it was not signed. Called USCIS and will receive a letter in a few days explaining)

12/13/10 ------- Biometrics done

12/16/10 ------- EAD card in production (email)

12/20/10 ------- Received "Letter of Explanation" for RFE (Service Request to expedite my case. Called USCIS and was told to ignore that and just send in response to RFE.)

12/22/10 ------- Touch (Email for Post Decision Activity on EAD saying that a letter of approval has been mailed out)

12/24/10 ------- Received EAD in the mail

12/27/10 ------- Applied for SSN

12/31/10 ------- Received Interview letter

01/03/11 ------- Received SSN card in the mail

01/07/11 ------- Mailed out response to RFE (I-693)

01/15/11 ------- Email confirming USCIS received RFE response

01/31/11 ------- Approved!

Pre-Adjustment of Status:

2006 -------- Met Online

02/07 ------- Visited him in the U.S. for what was suppose to be a few weeks (Came in with birth certificate and health card. Health card expired a few months after)

08/07 ------- Decided to get married because we didn't want to be apart (in the U.S.)

10/10 ------- USCIS Medical Done

Thanks! Yeah, I did not make copies and am scrambling to find everything again-- silly me. Even had to send for new tax returns. The Canadian marriage license doesn't look like it has a seal, but it is on official paper, from BC. Hopefully that is good.

Nice to see you got your passport so fast. I am freaking a little as mine expired a week before the interview date so I had to send it in for renewal. Sure do hope it gets back here on time!!!

I also did not make copies of what I sent. Did not really matter at the interview. IO only wanted to see my passport, I - 94, and co-mingling of finances. Approved in less than 10 minutes.

Usually, the copy won't even be needed ever. It's just recommended (in VJ's guides as well as most online guides) in case something happens. If you didn't think you make one, no biggy, if you made one, then hopefully, it's something that helps you feel more organized and in control of the whole process. :)
