Original documents sent to NVC translated into EN or not?

Hi,

I have a question to those who have already sent their original documents to NVS: did you translate the originals into English? My original birth certificate, police report, etc are in Lithuanian. Do I have to send their English translations or not? unsure.gif What did you do? Thanks in advance for your replies!

Hi,

If your final interview will be in Lithuania and the documents are in EITHER english OR the official language of your country, a translation is not necessary. Not even for NVC.

watch the consular webpages, commonly it is not necessary but double check it just to be sure

Well, the problem is that consular page is under construction now blush.gif

I just wonder if I send all my docs that are in Lithuanian to NVC, how they will know if smth is missing or not?

for NVC you usually do not need translations since it's going back the country of origin.

we had translations for everything regardless to be safe.

for NVC you usually do not need translations since it's going back the country of origin.

we had translations for everything regardless to be safe.

This may be true, for the countries which has only one language and that's the official language.

NVC guideline says: ""Note: All documents not in English or in the official language of the country in which the interview takes place MUST be accompanied by a certified translation into English. Translations must be certified by a competent translator and sworn to before a Notary Public."

But, the country like India has 30+ languages. Official language is Hindi. So, it is safer to get translated documents into English for the country like India. Since I had all English originals, I cannot comment more on this. But, people who have or have not faced any issues on this, will give more information.

The only help I can give you is that most people here had their documents translated. I translated all of my husbands documents I sent to NVC. I did it for peace of mind...because it was the safe thing to do.

I don't know about simple English translation, I provided word for word what was on the original document. At the end I stated that I was fluent in both languages. I did not have them notarized, I had no problems for the I-130, so I am assuming I will have none for the documents I sent to NVC. If you feel it's not necessary then just don't do it, I did it because I did not want to have a RFE for something I could have done with no problem. Can you translate? it will be for free if you do it!! LOL

I am going to see if I can scan a copy and put on here... I will try don't know how to do it....:bonk:

Here you go this is the birth certificate I translated for my husband. It is exactly the same except all info is in English.. let me know if you see it... I hope I did this correctly!

Did you also send originals to NVC?

Trust me they wont, they will accept it, that I am 100% sure of....and yes I sent originals with translation and copies of both, you must also send copies.

Hope now that you got a visual you will take the plunge and do it!! LOL I was nervous as you may be then I realized a lot of people here did it and no problems at all, so I know it will be ok. Besides the I-130 was approved with the same exact translation...
