Criminal Record (Petitioner)

I'm going the CR-1 route to get my wife here with me but I'm a little worried about the fact that I have a criminal record. She knows all about my past, and I've even given her a copy of my record to present if they should want to discuss my it. I've thought about getting an attorney but at the same time I feel like everything will be alright. Perhaps someone else is dealing with or dealt with this issue.

Need to provide some more information because a lot of people have dealt with many different criminal records and without the information of it they can't really help you with what you need to do.

A LOT will depend on the type of crime. Some crimes, like sex crimes, make it next to impossible to get a visa approved for a foreign spouse. Some crimes will need proof that the beneficiary knows about the crime (like assult or domestice crimes). Some crimes may just need further secrurity and background checks. And some won't even matter

I think, with a little effort, you might be able to be even more vague.

I'm a little confused how you could have domestic violence charges that didn't involve women, unless you were convicted of beating up your brother, but whatever. Assault and domestic violence charges would be covered by the IMBRA, but that only applies to K visas - not a CR1. If you're not a convicted sex offender then you wouldn't be covered by the Adam Walsh Act, so that wouldn't apply.

Assuming this is all you've got, your criminal history will probably only cause some delays during the background checks, but they shouldn't be a reason to deny your petition or your wife's visa.
