Fairness and selfishness get confused at times. For example, I consider it 'fair' to help others. However, it is 'unfair/selfish' if I expect them to help me in return...

It was definitely NOT FAIR when my son drank my last beers when I was out of town last week, and I came home to an empty stash!...not to mention that it was selfish on his behalf!

Fairness is living my life how I see fit without government or nosy moral idiots telling me how to live my life/taxing me to death where i cannot.

Just because your life may suck, doesn't mean your entitled to any part of mine.

Harshly worded...but it is a correct concept of fairness...any laborer of any sort is entitled to their wages. Simple enough...labor = wages. This is economical fairness in its most simplest of states. There is a world of implications behind it...naturally...but the argument is quite sound that this is true fairness.

Fairness all too often equates to social justice in the mind of the heretic. Liberation Theology is a heresy, after all. That doesn't release our obligation as followers of Christ. Charity is a personal act, and a path to grace.

Once you get rid of taxes and government, the only way you can stop other people from taking your stuff is to have a bigger army than they do.

I didn't say to get rid of government, nor did I say to get rid of taxes.

How much do you pay in taxes per year?

I find it unfair we pay taxes and not get a return back from it in terms of infrastructure. Social and structural.

Oh common! I thought fairness was I get to sit down and complain then when you get paid I get 75% of all that is yours! Then after that I get to complain more about how I am not getting more free stuff!

I agree, but I'm an anti-Federalist. I'd rather see 35% of my income go to my local government, not Washington.

This is true.

My response to Brother Paul was more on the plane of 'economic fairness' because I think that is the plane where he hovers most of the time (I could be wrong about that). Ratzinger was pretty harsh on liberation theology and I don't particularly go for it as it seems to be more of a 'classroom experiment' sort of action (political/social) than a genuine outpouring of the human heart (which you have correctly characterized as a 'path to grace').

BTW - speaking of 'socialized justice' I've always enjoyed your marching hammers avatar...and I loved the movie they are from as well...

Blessings - MK
