Hello,

Just have two questions. I got my green card April 2005.

1. When do I submit the application for lifting of the conditional status?

2. When can I apply for U.S. Citizenship? I am not planning to leave the States anytime soon. Please give me exact month and year.

The window for filing the I-751 to lift conditions opens 90 days before the expiration date printed on your green card. It closes on the expiration date of your green card. You may file the I-751 at any time during that 90 day window. It is prudent to file as early as practical during that window.

There are several requirements for citizenship which may affect the date when you can apply for citizenship, so it's impossible for me to give you an exact date, not knowing when you will meet all the requirements. If you remain continuously married to and living together in valid marital union with the same US Citizen until the date citizenship is granted, you could be eligible for citizenship as early as three years after the date you initially received your conditional LPR status. If this is the case, you may file the paperwork up to 90 days before you are eligible to receive citizenship. This would be one year after after the I-751 window opens, or about two years and nine months after you first got conditional LPR status.

18 Nov, 2006: I-751 NOA1 received from CSC

30 Nov, 2006: I-751 Biometrics taken

05 Apr, 2007: I-751 approved, card production ordered

23 Jan, 2008: N-400 sent to CSC via certified mail

19 Feb, 2008: N-400 Biometrics taken

27 Mar, 2008: Naturalization interview notice received (NOA2 for N-400)

30 May, 2008: Naturalization interview, passed the test!

17 June, 2008: Naturalization oath notice mailed

15 July, 2008: Naturalization oath ceremony!

16 July, 2008: Registered to vote and applied for US passport

26 July, 2008: US Passport arrived.

As you were told in the AOS forum:

You need to apply to remove conditions 1 year and 9 months after getting your green card. If you do not apply by the 2 year mark you basically have to start all over. Just file at 1 year 9 months, make life easy.

If your green card was based on marriage, and you're still married then you can get Citizenship at 3 years after getting your green card. You can apply for Citizenship after 2 years and 9 months. So that's Jan 09 if my math is correct. That's when you can apply if you've met ALL of the conditions. It will then take at 3 to 12 months (ball park guess) to get your citizenship, depending on where you live and your luck with paperwork and all the other factors.
