You don't submit your application to remove conditions until around your two year wedding anniversary. I am not sure how far in advance but you could find out on the USCIS website.

You can apply for citizenship in five years. If you have your green card you can leave the States if you want to. Unless you are talking about permanently thats different but for vacation you are free to go!

You need to apply to remove conditions 1 year and 9 months after getting your green card. If you do not apply by the 2 year mark you basically have to start all over. Just file at 1 year 9 months, make life easy.

If your green card was based on marriage, and you're still married then you can get Citizenship at 3 years after getting your green card. You can apply for Citizenship after 2 years and 9 months. So that's Jan 09 if my math is correct. That's when you can apply if you've met ALL of the conditions. It will then take at 3 to 12 months (ball park guess) to get your citizenship, depending on where you live and your luck with paperwork and all the other factors.

Diana,

No. On both counts. Unless by coincidence. But even then only one or the other will be correct.

iceyspots,

anniversary of what? Note that two different anniversaries have been mentioned in this thread - they can't both be right.

Yodrak

you must apply to remove conditions within 90 days of your anniversary date

I had no idea that you could apply for citizenship after only three years! Thats good to know. :D I was told something totally different. I guess I need to be careful who I am getting my information from. I knew it was sometime before the 2 year mark for the removal of conditions but I wasn't sure how far in advance. So three months before is a good time??? Can someone clear that up for me please. Thanks!

Diana,

The Guide to Naturalization found on the USCIS web site is an excellent resource. And actually, 3 years is only one of several qualifications that has to be met.

The time for applying to remove conditions is based on the date that status was granted, not the date of marriage. Same for citizenship.

Yodrak
