Recently the NVC confirmed they received a package of documents. When I asked which package they received the operator told me they are unable to confirm which package has been received.

They said to call back in 6-8 weeks to find out the status of the review of the documents.

Why can't the NVC tell me which documents were received?

I know of course that they received the Affidavit of Support since that is the only package I have sent so far.

But once I send in the DS-230 package then there will be 2 packages on file at the NVC. If they cannot tell me which package was received, how can they tell me what the individual status of each package is ?

It depends on the representative you talk to. Some would tell you if they recived and approved certain documents, some would not. Unfortunately, thats how it is.

Did they tell you it would take only 4 weeks to review the file? They told me 6-8 weeks.

It depends on the representative you talk to. Some would tell you if they recived and approved certain documents, some would not. Unfortunately, thats how it is.

Is there any harm to calling the NVC weekly or twice a week to follow up and ask them questions ?

Initially I was hesitant in bothering NVC. Then I saw others who called NVC to ask if their docs were approved. So I went ahead and called them yesterday. I too turned in the I-864 and the DS-230, which has a receive date of Aug 17. I was hoping that they would tell me at least the I-864 was approved so I didn't have to gather additional documents. The lady on the other end was nice and said that she saw they were in the system and under review and that they have been really backlogged and are taking longer than usual, and said the usual, 4-6 weeks. Other anecdotal evidence suggests that its taking at least a month from receipt to acceptance. I don't see any harm in trying your luck in getting a more direct answer. But I am not going to call them everyday... just once every two weeks. I do this AFTER I check the AVR. I really don't want to talk to them if I don't have to. And I am sure they feel the same way!

And don't pay attention to their spiel about 4 weeks versus 6-8 weeks. These are standard responses that are on the AVR or that they saying to cover themselves. Each case is going to be different. If you look at time-lines, approval times are all over. In January, NVC took a week to 10 days to go from receiving DS-230 to sending to the consulate!

Where am I at in the process? :

So true..I have called today & operator told me that since DS3032 has been accepted, the IV FEE BILL should be in the system shortly, but August is worst months for them as their sounds like, She also informed that same way, they have been facing back logged & she also told me not to call until 10 business days passed since she has been forward my request to Supervisor.

Hi

I agree with what most people are saying here. Sometimes they'll tell you, oh we've received it and its in the building and but we haven't entered into our system so they cant tell you what they've received. but like you said you've only sent out I-864 till now, so you know what they received. You can call and speak to one of the agents after a couple of days of the form being entered into their system and they do inform you that everything was fine on I-864(at least they did in my case) and now they are waiting for the DS230 etc.

After I-864 is cleared and they don't receive the DS230 in the 2 weeks or so, sometimes they send a checklist letter as a reminder that they are awaiting DS230, so the AVR msg for you might change then but its always better to speak to them and find out.

We mailed both I-864 and DS-230 in one package to the NVC, and both the forms were approved at the same time. About a month later we just got SIF, and the operator on the phone confermed that the case (both the forms) was completed the same very day. Thank God we never got RFE. Best wishes! P.S. NVC's AVR appears to be one week behind the actual date of receiving the package... According to USPS they signed for our package on 07/14/2010, but AVR stated 07/21/2010.
