Well, I'm not as familiar with the specifics of each law, I just meant:

from the article:

"attempted murder two as a hate crime, assault with a weapon as a hate crime, aggravated harassment second degree because of race and religion, and criminal possession of a weapon."

like take out 'hate crime' and 'because of race and religion'....does that really matter? And what does the added caveat of 'hate crime' mean?

well you deleted the part where i stated i agree with you on the "hate crime" labels... people dont try to kill those they like :P

i believe the "journalist" isnt doing their homework so there's confusion on what EXACTLY the guy is being charged with because this description (the above bolded section in your post) is first degree. second degree (as stated in the article) would be if he called him up on phone and harrassed and threatened the cabbie.

Aren't hate crime laws on the books?

i realize you're just being a wiseguy but i'll respond to you this once.

MURDER, and ATTEMPTED MURDER were already on the books... we dont need to continue to pass new laws (i.e. hate crime), HARSH enforcement of the ones already there is what is needed.

if you gave your info (receipt #s, full name, etc) to anyone on VJ under the guise that they would "help" you through the immigration journey with his inside contacts (like his sister at USCIS) ... please contact OLUInquiries@dhs.gov, and go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact to report anything suspicious. Contact your congressman and senator's offices as well.

Yeah I took out the part that I wasn't responding to, just to be clear ;) Btw, I wasn't trying to bicker, just explaining what I meant. I do think it's severe enough for attempted murder 1...

I don't think anyone was talking about passing any new law here. We are talking about enforcing those on the books - including hate crime laws - as applicable.

Sadly a lot of politicians use one Hot issue, instead of creating a true debate about it, they become polarized and start to make all kind of crazy statements, knowing fully well there are some deranged people out there who might take at heart, whatever crazy statements they are making just to get Vote, to get listener, and driving this country into Arnachie.

Am I suprised, Not the way the media has been acting.

Wow

There is a lot of crazy ###### that happens in NYC but this one is ott. The guy must have some serious psych probs. Maybe it was even some temporary insanity or something.

Yeah New York has more than it's fair share of crazies. I was once walking down the street Near St. Marks and Broadway talking on my phone. A scraggly crack head with a scratchy voice jumped out of nowhere screaming at me telling me not to talk to her because she doesn't know me, I ignored her but she followed me for another block ranting psychotic verses then she disappeared
