There's no smoke without fire. You can close your eyes and ignore overwhelming

(albeit circumstantial) evidence, but when 60-70% of New Yorkers do not support the

mosque and 55% will vote against any politician that supports it, you can't easily

dismiss them as idiots or bigots.

Of course it didnt happen in a vacuum but we aren't responsible for the actions these extremists took on 9/11. America IS partly to blame, just as Britain is partly to blame for the NI situation, just as the Spanish are party to blame for the Basque situation etc etc. It doesn't justify terrorism but there are contexts behind which these things take place. You may not find it comfortable, but it is true nonetheless.
