Are I-130/I-485 filed together being processed faster than I-130 alone?

I know of a person with PD Nov09 who received his I-130 approval a few days ago. He's on a different forum, so I don't give a link, lest I break some policy. He is a permanent resident who was filing for his spouse who's currently in the U.S. on her student visa. That means she is eligible to file I-485. Are these cases being processed ahead of the general pool of I-130 or everything is being done in sequence? Is it a hopeful sign to those of us whose PD is Fall 09 that Nov09 petitions are being approved right now or is it a separate pool and therefore meaningless?

P.S. I should mention that it's about the California Service Center.

They normally process them in the order they receive them - the time delay people see is based on what type of visa it is, background checks, movement to other places, etc...

- I would imagine this case would go faster, since it doesn't have to go to the embassy to process, but they still would go by the preference category/priority date. (basically, in the same "pool" as you mention)

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS
