Hi

I recently had my CR1 visa approved at the US Embassy based in London - SO PLEASED!!!

I have a question, probably over complicating things but just wanted to be sure.

As my visa is now approved, my wife and I are looking at flights from the UK to US. We were originally looking at one way tickets but the cost is working out to about 900 GBP each!! So I looked at return flights and the cost is 500 GBP each, clearly, a lot cheaper!

Will there be an issue on booking a return flight rather than a one way ticket(as it's the cheaper option) when I get to the US port of entry? Just didn't want any issues when I get to the US port of entry. As the honest answer is that return flights are cheaper and we wouldn't be taking the return flight back.

No issue - however, if you get a 2 way ticket, ensure you cancel the return part once you get to the US.

There have been a disturbing number of cases were USCIS thinks the people returned on those tickets when they went to AOS or do something similar.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

yes, however, since you are a CR1 visa holder, you don't have to worry about it :)

We did the same thing. Look for returns on cheap days and cheaper time of the year. Try return combinations until you find the cheapest fare. Don't forget to cancel.

Hi

Another quick question, as I have a CR1 visa, based on the info on visa journey, "A CR1 Visa will result in the applicant obtaining "conditional" permanent residency within the US and after a period of two years the applicant can apply to "Remove Conditions" 90 days before the conditional permanent resident card expires and they will be issued a regular 10 year green card."

The visa in my passport also states " upon endorsement serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year". I was not entirely sure what was meant by this sentence as it's different to the statement above?

ps re: flights we found it on BA website.

You will get a stamp at the point of entry that allows you to be and show that you are a permanent resident. This is for you until you get your official card in the mail, usually a few weeks later.

If you have been married for <2 years, yes, you do have to apply to Remove Conditions so that you can get a 10 year card (if you don't do this, the spouse will be out of status and could be deported). You apply 2 years in the future, minus 90 days from the point of entry date. We have an entire forum dedicated to removing conditions and another Guide...so check it out! It's a way to get more $$ out of us :bonk: about $500 more or so...

...I cannot WAIT until I can get hubby's citizenship in 3 years and not have to deal with immigration anymore...

Thanks!!!

Yep, we've been married for less than two years so we'll have to do the remove the conditional bit at the time you've mentioned.

Do you have a link to so I can access the guidance on this - I'll save that for closer to the time! I am guessing it is a quicker process?
