Hello Everyone!

I am a Graduate (Ph.D) student on F1 VISA and my wife USC we both got maried in Aug-2007( I came to US on F1 VISA in Summer 2003 for doing MS and later continued towards Ph.D) and we recently filed the AOS at the Chicago office. We received the Receipt Notice (Form I-797) today.

My question is how long will I have to wait until the process is completed. Since I have been in US almost 7 years legally and also we are married( 3 yrs and have 2 yr old son) and togther( 5 yrs) Will I be able to get the paper work done faster than others? Please give me your valuable comments as I am almost done with my Ph.D program and applying for Jobs.

Thanks in Advance to all the effort you guys put to help people like me.

Have a wonderful Day.

JPJ.

It takes as long as it takes because it's a bureaucratic process. Your application will sit in the queue, along with everyone else, and take about the same amount of time as everyone else, presuming there are no problems. Very little of the waiting time is spent with an immigration officer actually considering your application. The bulk of the time, your application is waiting for an immigration officer to finish the applications they received before yours. So, your personal circumstances will not improve the processing time in any noticeable way.

Sorry.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

Thanks Jim for the prompt reply. I understand. Do you know what is the general time line? (How many months) until the process is completed.

Regards,

JPJ

You can see the averages collected from VJ member cases here:

http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/aosstats.php?cfl=

Note that the average time varies a lot, depending on which local USCIS field office is handing the application. The overall average is currently about 4 months, from filing the application to receiving the green card.
