Excuse me for not being politically correct but I know what I see in the area where I live and it is rampant. Hate crimes that are not charged as hate crimes is very common here. I seriously doubt the FBI lets a "regular" crime have any effect on their hate crime statistics.

Rob works with statistics... in law enforcement if I am not mistaken.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

So what? You're just going to stick to what you believe that whites are subjected to harsher prison sentences than non whites? You really think it's that simple?

In point of fact there is evidence in some areas that blacks receive disproportionately higher prison sentences than whites for equivalent crimes. This too has been discussed on here previously and ignored out of hand.

I am not talking about prison sentences of whites and blacks. I am talking about numerous crimes in this area that should have been charged as hate crimes but were not.

It's not a matter of being politically correct, it is a matter of being factually correct. I deal with law enforcement statistics on a regular basis as it is a part of my job. Just because an assault or other various other violent crimes where the victim and assailant are of different races doesn't make it a hate crime. There are specific metrics that must be met for it. With all due respect, I don't think your personal anecdotes qualify you to make this determination.

Come work in Detroit Rob I promise it will sour your attitude up really nice just like it has done mine. In fact before I came to this country I just didn't understand why everyone was soooo racist, but I do now. Maybe being in the medical field doesn't qualify me but I have the right to form my thoughts and opinions on what I see and it sickens me more every day.

I have been to Detroit and other parts of Michigan, and can say that I wouldn't want to live there, but there is no excuse for racism, period. You have the right to your opinions, but please don't confuse your anecdotes for empirical evidence or methodology.

You shouldn't be posting that - it is a racist hate site.

And what's with the "white anglo saxon" references? Anglo Saxons don't exist - they haven't for about 1000 years.

Maybe they haven't existed for 1,000 years but the term is still in use, where does the term WASP come from? You all know what I mean and we are not at an ivy league debate but simply an internet forum. Isn't it funny a "hate" site can paint such an accurate picture of the situation here.

If hate crime charges result in harsher prison sentences, then surely it is relevant.

Why should a beating be given a harsher sentence if it was a hate crime, instead of a 'regular run o the mill' crime?

Seriously. Same severity, same outcome. Why different sentences?

We've had this conversation numerous before and I'd rather not go down that route again since it has little if anything to do with my argument here.

I was referring to Luckytxn's post.

Yeah we have had this argument before, and tbh, I wish someone could come up with an actual adequate answer, because I'd really love to know.

But I thought you were referring to mine, not his, so I'll let this one go for now. ;)

The difference is the intent. A racially motivated assault is meant to terrorize the victim.

It is called an "Enhancement" of the crime. Like If someone steals your purse just by grabbing it from you, versus pulling a gun on you. Big diff in terms of how much time the punk would do behind bars.
