Driving in Mississippi with Canadian License

In the beginning of August, I've immigrated to Mississippi with a CR1 visa. I have a Canadian driver's license, and I was wondering if I'm able to drive here with it? Would my Canadian license transfer over to the Mississippi license or would I need to take both the written and the road tests? I've called the DMV and the Rep told me that I only need to take the written test and then they would issue me a MS license. She also said that I could drive with my Canadian license for now until 60 days of my arrival date. Afterward, I would need to get a MS license. Just to be cautious, I wanted to verify what the Rep told me and so far I have not been able to find any data to back up this info. Has anyone had any experience with MS DMV? Did your Canadian license transfer over? Thanks for your input.

I have had no experience with MS but I used my Canadian drivers licence in Colorado..I handed it in at the DMV there and they gave me a CO licence..no written test nothing other than an eye exam...strange they would tell you that you need to take a written test??

In nebraska they gave me a test on the computer passed it and that was it, they gave me my nerbaska drivers license. I used my canadian license, my passport and my marriage certificate ( to be able to get it in my married name since my passport isnt changed yet ) it was really quick and painless.

Its not strange that they make people take a writen test at all. EVERY state is different requirements, some have you do both writen and driving some only writen.

yep, there is NO "United" in United States! Varies from State to State, probably just like it would vary from province to Province back in Canada! best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
