not all people has the same definition of beauty...what is beautiful to you, might not be beautiful to me...so on and so forth.... the contestants were not just judged on beauty. before the night of the pageant, the judges already decided who is in the top 15...based on the previous activities....maybe venezuela didn't stand out on the other categories....

Ms. Mexico did not have a great answer as well but what I was talking about is how she made it to the top 5, this was before the question and answer portion. The contest works in many strange ways, Ms. Philippines was not all that good looking as was Jamaica, in my opinion I think Ms. Venezuela looked better.

i would've figured that she would've used her experience about being stripped of the Bb. Pilipinas title earlier this year and then explaining what she learned from it (which is don't lie)....would've probably gotten her better results.

I didn't know about this. Nor did I follow Miss Universe. I don't really like the politically correct mamby-pamby stuff that you get in these things though.

My wife showed me her statement and it was weak. I didn't realize she diverted it to a comment on her family.

If she lied on a material fact in a contest and was stripped of a title - wow. What's she even doing there? Geez!

Posted

The judges are looking for the contestants to share a personal experience. She should have prepared to answer such a question with some kind of personal struggle, even if she doesn't consider it major.

  i agree!!!

for me she just say hi and hello!! :D:P

but honestly to be on the top 5 is not bad... still a great job...

My husband and I watched Miss Universe last night and I was proud and hoped and knew that Miss Philippines will make it to the top 5. I think she has the best stance among the ones in top 5... not the prettiest but has someth'n to show.. Come question and answer... I was, I must admit, pretty sure she will come in last. I didn't even wait for the winners to be declared. I thought she had the advantage having heard the other contestants' answers - She could have done better. It seemed like she just plainly stammered when it came her turn...

Come on now people, Pinoys and Pinays out there must have been proud at some point, having her on top 5.. before she answered a Baldwin question...

I wonder what people will say of her if she would have won it...

She's half Indian and ugly... Should have been a REAL Filipina and most of them are beautiful. Why would the Philippine choose her anyway

Ugly? Reading up on her she actually sounds like a nice girl and represented the Philippines very well except for that one gaffe. She did well in school, appears to have moral character from what I have read. I find it interesting that she didn't think to bring up her environment growing up that from what I read was a very modest lifestyle.

What's a "REAL Filipina?" Ignorant mainlander.

The Philippine islands are inhabited by a number of different ethnic groups. The majority of the population is composed of ethno-linguistic groups whose languages are Austronesian (Malayo-Polynesian) in origin. Many of these people converted to Christianity, and adopted many foreign elements of culture. These ethnic groups include the Ilocano, Pangasinense, Kapampangan, Tagalog, Bicolano, and Visayan.

In Mindanao, there are people who practice Islam. The Spanish called them Moros after the Moors. In some highland areas of Mindanao, there are mountain-dwelling ethnic groups collectively known as lumad. These people do not practice Islam, and maintain their animistic beliefs and traditions.

The Negrito are a pre-Mongoloid people who migrated from mainland Asia and were the first human beings to settle the Philippines, around 30,000 years ago.[citation needed] The Negrito population are estimated to number around 30,000. Their tribal groups include the Ati, and the Aeta. Their ways of life remain mostly free from Western and Islamic influences. Scholars study them to try to understand pre-Hispanic culture.

Most Filipinos are part of the Austronesian group, a group of Malayo-Polynesian speaking people. Non-Malayo Polynesian ethnic groups form a minority in the Philippine population. These include those of Chinese, Europeans, American, and other ethnic groups. Mixed-race individuals are known as Filipino mestizos; most are of Asian and indio descent.

I didn't follow the whole competition. Watched it the last night with my wife. I didn't think Miss Philippines was the best looking of the bunch either. I thought Miss Puerto Rico was smoking hot and the best looking of the top 10 group. Miss Philippines looked extremely nervous during her last question and answer, I don't think she came across as arrogant. She just couldn't think well on her feet when it counted. She didn't articulate her answer very well at all. I didn't think Miss Mexico's answer was all the spectacular either, maybe something got lost in translation.
