Hi All,

I just called the guy who is going to help me file for my paperwork for the NVC process. He said lately I-130 applications are taking longer to process. He knows someones who's case is siting at NVC from past 4 months. He filed everything in April and haven't heard from them since. He even followed up with them and they said it is being processed.

Just wondering if anyone else experienced that sort of delayed? I'm a US Citizen and Filed I-130 for my wife. I'm still waitigg for my NOA 2. I thought if you send everything it usually takes 1-2 weeks. Any imput is appreciated as I would like to give my wife heads up to expect delays.

Thanks

The NOA1 takes 1-2 weeks, but the NOA2 is taking around 5 months to come through at the moment. I also filed my I-130 in April, and am waiting for my NOA2. I don't expect to see it for a few more weeks, although I am hoping for it everyday!

I think you're getting the NVC and the USCIS confused. The I-130 is first sent to the USCIS for approval which depending on the service center you sent it to can take anywhere from 3-6 months. After the petition is approved, it will be forwarded to the NVC and there it can take another 1-3 months depending on how quickly you pay your fees and send them your paperwork.

No, Hotzone is correct lately NVC is taking about 4 to 5 months to process I-130's after they leave USCIS. The only way I can deal with the wait is to do averages, so every day I average how long USCIS takes to process I-130's, I then average how long NVC takes to process the I-130's, and then I average how long it will take to get a interview. All from Vsajourney users.

I have noticed lately for at least the I-130's everything has slowed down dramatically the USCIS part, the NCV part, and the interviews too.

I really would like to know what is going on. And why they have pretty much stopped processing the I-130's.

i think there is confusion with USCIS vs NVC here. the initial I-130 petition goes to the USCIS and can take upto 5 months for approval (this is your NOA2 notice). earlier this year, it took an average of ~ 3.5 months, but it ended up taking me (and a few others on VJ) 5 months and 10 days (for my wife's i-130 that is). so it can definitely take that long. AFTER you get your NOA2, things move to the NVC. if all your paperwork is good, then it should take an average of ~ 3 months from NOA2 approval to interview. i got the march 16th and went thru NVC and got my wife's interview scheduled on june 10th and PoE on 18th. now these are average timelines. these keep fluctuating all the time - that's why there's a timeline meter on VJ. keep checking that. there are busy periods and there are light periods. i remember looking at timelines last august and it was only taking 60 days to approval; obviously not the case when i applied for my wife.

also, in general i-130 apps take a bit longer. the now defunct k3 spouse visa was supposed to be shorter approval time, but even that ended up getting approval the same exact time as the i-130. i think the k1 fiance visa is the only one that may be quicker by a month or so. as someone who went thru utter hell waiting (and many others on VJ i'm sure) for our NOA2s, now I dont regret applying for the I-130, as my wife got a job right away (didnt have to apply for a work permit etc) doing exactly what she's qualified in (a better position obviously) and she just got her 1st paycheck yesterday. the GC is obviously the most powerful document and it's virtually hassle free after you get the cr-1 visa. so you reap the rewards latter on. i know for k3 and possibly even k1 visas, that you have to apply for a work permit here and file for change of status (at least $1100 minimum) AND go thru a GC interview process. so you may have gotten to save a month or so (basically that's all the time savings amounted to), but you end up having to do a lot more follow-up procedures after you get your spouse here. but obviously i understand that the time factor may be a lot more important to most folks (i know it was for me at the time), but all i can say is hang in there and best of luck. it will come!

Thanks for the reply everyone. I think I need to re-word my question.

that person that told you they sent their I-130 to NVC in April is confused/mistaken. the initial filing of the I-130 does not go directly to NVC. everyone has to send their I-130 petitions to USCIS. and then after USCIS reviews that packet, in about 4-6 months, you will get your NOA2 (Notice of Approval) letter letting you know your petition has been approved by USCIS. then....AND ONLY THEN...does the I-130 packet go to the NVC.
