Hello,

I hope this is the good place to ask about this. I want to get a MBA degree to get better job when my fiance comes to live with me. My employer told me that they will help pay for my education. Since I work so much, I wondered if any of you think schools such as University of Phoenix or American Intercontinental University are good schools to get a MBA from. They are both online schools so I don't know if they will do good for me. Are they good or should I stay way from them? Thanks

Sent the I-129F petition to USCIS on Aug 20, 2010

I-129F Approved!!! Feb 7, 2011

Returned P3 to Consulate Mar 7, 2011

Interview Date May 20, 2011

Yeah, I agree the above poster. I would avoid going to any for-profit school like University of Phoenix, which basically is an diploma mill.

More and more state colleges and universities offer courses designed for working students, including online classes for a fraction of the cost.

Aren't all private universities "for profit"? I don't see for-profit being the problem. I see the reputation of the U of Phoenix being the rpoblem.

Not at all. I went to a private art college and it is a not-for-profit.

It depends on a couple of things. How much will your employer pay and is your employer only interested that you have the degree for a specific position you want to apply for. In nursing for instance I have found most employers don't care where you got the degree just as long as you have it. My Chief Nursing Officer for instance has a MBA from University of Phoenix.

University of Phoenix is expensive when compared to the Cal State system here in California. On the plus side, you don't have to fight to get into classes or be put on waiting lists because classes are either not offered this quarter or are full. University of Phoenix offers three flavors of classes: meet weekly, meet first and last week, rest on-line, and totally online. Most nurses I know prefer the weekly classes. The online program would be nice if you had issues with leaving kids alone for example. Last note, for Masters level classes at UoP you do not need to do a dissertation.

Your university system may have online classes also. To me that is the best bang for the buck. Classes are cheaper and you get some flexibility in your scheduling.

I believe the quality of education at a university, especially for post graduate studies, is superior to the UofP's diploma mill.

I am not disagreeing but in my example of nursing let us say the job requires a MSN degree, the employer does not care where the MSN was obtained from just that the applicant has one.
