The new "banning from thread" action

VJ Moderation has reviewed the subject thread and offers the following:

1.)This is version VI of a thread running for two years, with over 30,000 posts.

2.)The purpose of the thread is innocuous at best and is approved by Captain Ewok.

3.)Today, for some unknown reason, 5 members having never posted there before decided to descend upon the thread.

The 5 people were banned from the thread. One post in particular could be construed as a TOS violation, but that one will slide.

At the end of the day, why complain (or suddenly participate) in a thread that does not affect you in any way?

I think that's what the game is! Ask Jenn cos she's the one who started it originally :)

So what if I were to post the name of a poster but that poster isn't the next person. Then what?

3.)Today, for some unknown reason, 5 members having never posted there before decided to descend upon the thread.

It is not against TOS to post in a thread I have not posted in before.

Or maybe, the first post of the thread should include some direction as to what the game is or some sort of guidance as to what is expected of posters. Sans a set of instructions, we were left to interpret 60 pages of jibberish which consists 90% of "chacha" "Cinco", repeat x 900 times.

What this really amounts to is a few users want a private thread to chit chat.

AJ - I think they don't care if new people join in as long as they post who they think will post next. I only looked at the thread earlier because I saw the poll about it. Otherwise I would have never even clicked on it.

There IS no way to tell this. To someone unfamiliar and new to this thread it just appears to be a place where people type random things.

Which is what I did.

A better course of action would have been for someone to post a refresher of the rules when they realised it was straying. That way we could have all said "oops, sorry!" and either joined in in the correct manner, or left.

So, your inference from #3 is that this was some sort of coordinated attack or something? Please clarify the passive aggressive innuendo.

Completely agreed. Don't understand why this one even made the 'list', let alone, got bolded

It was direct. For clarification, 5 members that do not post to this thread, posted within 20 minutes of each other. It was coordinated or gang-up by default. Clearly not necessary, but fully within the parameters of the TOS.

Should one be driven by the TOS alone?

Am I in an alternate universe? I can totally see why Wm would think this could be a coordinated attack. That said - I bet some of the posters in that thread know exactly what a staged attack might look like - since they themselves used to partake in such fun!
