Wife got her SSN today! They must have tried the computer again on their own instead of waiting for the manual verification to come back.

They never told us they would do that, but it must be standard procedure or something.

Good! One step closer! I have to go back tomorrow and get a name change done, and then it's AOS time! Looking forward to it... NOT!

My POE went great. took an hour for them to process it. Didnt seem that long to me because I had my son keeping me busy. I had him wearing his proud to be shirt. It has the canadian and american flags together and says "proud to be" above the flag. Boarder people were surprised he was already a citizen. She asked me to check and make sure Chris' address was correct on the forms in the "do not open" package and then called me up for finger prints and picture. that was it. She told me I was ready to go and asked me for six dollars for the I-94.

Life is like a roller coaster. Hold on tight and enjoy the ride!

That's awesome mandaNchris!

See, I thought it was weird because when I did my POE, they didn't take my prints, or pictures and I didn't have to pay for the I-94... Oh well, I'm here now, so I guess they did something right!

I'm glad your family is reunited and that your son gets to see his dad everyday! How cool!

Alright, well, I'm getting ready for another day of AOS stuff, just THRILLED! :bonk:

Hi All, Sorry I haven't been around for awhile.. I've been without internet, but my POE went safely and had no issues at all. I will probably wait another week or two before I go for my SSN. Hope everyone is doing well and are enjoying their time with their loved ones. :)

Congrats to the new POE's woohoo! Doesn't it feel great to be home!?

Question for you all regarding AOS stuff. Are you all filing for Advanced Parole (I-131). As part of the form you need to state the dates of your intended trips. Right now I really don't know when I will be going back home to Canada. So do I simply no file for Advanced Parole...and if I do end up making a trip just file it then if I don't yet have my Green Card?? What have you guys done?

Thanks!

Wife went to get her MI driver's license today. Tried to apply in her married name, but no go since her SSN is in her maiden name. I swear I read a few posts on here from people that hadn't updated it and just had their marriage cert and got it in their married name. Oh well. She got it in her maiden name for now.

Will wait until we get our AOS NOA1 to try and get her ssn changed. I assume USCIS would have it in their system at that point.

Yeah... I guess they would... I went and had it changes, and I should be able to send off the AOS stuff early October... Hopefully I won't run into any trouble! And I think I'll get my driver's license soon too, everyone that cards me looks at my Quebec license and think I'm from Africa or something! :bonk:

Good Morning everyone!

Well, thanks to nickbits, I'm almost done with my AOS package! All I have left to do is gather Chris' pay stubs and a letter from his bank!

It's kind of exciting, I can't wait to...wait! No more paper work for a little bit!

How is everyone else doing with packing, POEing, wedding-ing, AOSing?

Have a good day everyone!

Hi August Crew,

After being in California for nearly 6 weeks, I have finally sent off my AOS package.

What a relief!

I haven't received my SIN yet. I applied with my married name and was told I have to wait 4 weeks for them to do a background check. I guess I wasn't in their records yet. Oh well..I am trying not to stress about it.

Now that the AOS is done, I can breathe for the time being. VJ's guide is super useful for tips. I found that making a checklist and including it in my package was helpful. I almost forgot to include something on my way to FedEx. I triple checked before I actually sealed the envelope.

Also, you need 6 passport pics. At first, I thought it was only 2, but you need 2 for AOS, 2 for EAD and 2 for AP. I went to COSTCO to get mine for about $12.

Good luck everybody!

AOS

POE @ Toronto Pearson - 08/12/10

Civil Ceremony - 08/27/10

Applied for SSN in married name - 09/06/10 (I was told it will take 4 weeks to get the background check cleared and an additional 2 weeks to receive my card)

AOS/EAD/AP sent with FedEx - 09/25/10

E-Notice From Chicago - 10/05/10

I-797C, NOA1 Received - 10/08/10

SSN card received (FINALLY!)- 10/23/10

Biometrics appointment - 10/28/10

EAD Approved - 11/19/10 (USCIS Website Notice)

AP Approved & Received - 11/22/10

EAD Received- 11/23/10

Interview - 02/07/11 APPROVED!

I am now a U.S. Permanent Resident!!
