Alright everyone question for y'all...I submitted my name change (in person) at the Social Security Office with my EAD card 2 weeks ago. I haven't yet received the card and have called SSA two times now to check on the status of the name change. They are saying it may take up to SIX weeks to verify my immigration status and thus change my name with SSA... Just wondering how long this has taken for others...six weeks seems LONG!!

Yeah it does seem a little too overboard... I got my new SSN card 10-14 days after applying for a name change, and they didn't say anything about having to check my status... Is there a number you can call?

Alright its official for me...received my Green Card on Friday!! ALSO on Friday I got my papers from my licensing board...I start work Monday, wish me luck:)

Also I've called SSA twice...ended up going to the office again on Friday with my Green card in hand (literally went there as soon as I had checked the mail and opened the envelope!). Showed the folks my EAD and my Green card and my marriage license...she said she was able to update the system and link something with DHS (I dunno??). Anyways she said NOW it is updated and I should receive my new SSN card within 2 weeks. Lets cross our fingers...

I've been looking at jobs a lot lately and notice a LOT of jobs require you to be a US Citizen... I posted my resume on sites anyways clearly stating a I have work permit but not sure if I'll ever hear back.

Anyone else notice this? I can get a job at a restaurant or fast food no problem but anything relate to my field (travel administration) I don't seem to be eligible if its true.

See profile for our K-1 Visa/AOS story from 2010-2011Apparently we love USCIS/NVC so much we left and are doing it again! This time giving IR-1 a whirl. Rock on immigrators.

Mummm... I don't know, I know that I put dowm on my resume that I'm a EAD card holder. If the employer follows the rule, they should give equal opportunity to everyone... But enh, who are we kidding, I'm sure most employers would rather hire an american before an immigrant, just like we would back in Canada...

Here's the whining of the day:

Been looking for a job since January 10th, applied to billions of places (not really) and STILL nothing... I'm giving myself until February 5th, and then I'm going to every store/restaurants close to home and applying... Really didn't want to work weekends, but looks like I'm gonna have to grow some balls (s'cuse my language)... I'm so disapointed! I'm starting to wonder if I should take off the "EAD card holder" from my resume... Maybe they'll think I'm american with a crazy first name

Oh, and I'm quitting smoking. I'm wining myself down right now, I can't do it cold turkey so I'm taking the long way. This should help my unemployed wallet!

Good luck Vero. Quitting smoking is hard but I'm sure you can do it. Just keep at it even if you slip up. I hope you find a job soon.

Life is like a roller coaster. Hold on tight and enjoy the ride!

Not in my area. Locals are a bunch of trashy uneducated people haha. They love the Canadians.

Guess what?

GREEN CARD INTERVIEW ON MARCH 3! I got the email. Don't know where it will be yet but my husband is already asking for the time off.

I didn't put that on my resume because I think most people don't even know what EAD means haha so I wrote something about having moved here and am legally permitted to work. The application will ask if I am a legal citizen and thats where I plan to enter my work permit details. I've only started looking this week and there is NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING as for jobs in this area. I refuse to work at a restaurant but my back up after the EI is empty is working retail. Might as well get discounts out of it. I called Service Canada on Monday and they still haven't called me back :( you think they would since I owe them $91.

Congratulations Tater&#######! That's good news!!!

On a different note, we just did our taxes using TurboTax, and NEVER AGAIN! I don't know if we were retarded or the program was retarded but it seriously took us 4 hours, and then, when it was time to submit the state tax, they wanted 40$ more just for the state! No thank you!!! Gosh we were so mad!!! But at least the federal it done... :bonk:

Glad to hear everyones cases are moving smoothly. I just got a touch today saying my case was recieved at the California Service Center, Hoping that it won't take forever to get processed. If it does, i'd at least like to have my EAD and AP soon. Limbo sucks...heh..Especially in Texas! I NEED my EAD for EVERYTHING!!!! In the town I live in anyways...

Glad you figured out the Taxes thingy Vero..Havn't even touched that yet, waiting on Josh's W2 first. I'm wondering if it would matter if I filed with my social secruity number saying my maiden name...SS wont change my name till I have my EAD or GC.

Just thought i'd pop in and see how everyone is doing :)

Ya no one is around these days haha. Once we all have our GC's we'll need to find another way to keep in touch! I won't be coming here that often. Even now that I have my EAD and AP I don't.

If anyone has facebook and wants to keep in touch PM your email address or ask for mine :) Wouldn't want to totally lose my VJ friends!

On another note, anyone familiar with the Phoenix area of AZ? We're moving in Aug, going in June to find a home. Looking for some tips. We're thinking of getting a place in Buckeye or Avondale, not right in Phoenix.
