i'm here!

we got married on 10-31 and we're in the process of getting everything together to mail off. most likely next week..since i totaled my car on the way to pick orfee up for poe, things have been a little stressful. but we got a new car on thursday so, least that's done.

so far orfee has got his ssn, but we can't get him on my lease till he has a Virginia license/id and we don't have any mail in his name to get the VA license (easiest thing to prove residency would be a lease) its a pretty aggravating cycle..

plus, orfee didn't get any type of vaccination sheet from his medical in montreal, so we're kind of stuck there as well.

other than all this immigration #######, life is grand

Hey Valerie78! Glad to hear things are ok! Oh my god... Where did you have an accident? Was it because of all the bad drivers in Quebec? That must have been quite the nightmare...

I guess Orfee could open up a bank account since he has his SSN... I know that's all you need, with the passport and I-94, and Suntrust and Wachovia have free checking accounts... That would be proof enough of residence, if the person at the DMV knows what he/she is doing!

You guys got married on Halloween! Did you wear costumes? That's so original!

And did you guys try to contact the medical office where he had his medical done? I'm sure they could send him one. He had to have had it done because they needed it at the consulate... They might have forgotten to give him a copy - how convenient...

Let us know when you guess send your package, and we'll update the list!

i never even made it to canada! i was in new jersey in 287 (in rush hour traffic) and the guy in front of me slammed on this brakes because a deer jumped out in the highway..i slammed on my brakes, hit dude in front of me anyway and the guy behind me hit me, four cars total. the deer layed in the road for about five minutes and then jumped right back off the highway. jeez.

orfee ended up renting a car from the airport and driving to meet me in new jersey. he did his poe at little after midnight - thankfully he didn't have any problems..it was all very rushed..

no costumes, we just did a civil ceremony at a pub - then we had lunch/beer at said pub :D

we were going to send a letter stating that they have all the info from the medical, given over at the poe and cross our fingers it gets through. after the car, aos check, and the insurance deductible (it was a policy through my job and they had the damn thing set at $2,300!!!) we're pretty much broke!

but, none of that really matters and everything will all work out - we're finally together. whew. :P

Wow, Valerie. Glad you're OK, and together; that's what counts! Just think of the stories you can tell now :)

I have a quick question about my AOS fees.. I'm submitting the i-485, and also the i-765 (EAD) .. does the new fee increase hit people who have filed their AOS package AFTER Nov 23rd? If so, the total amount I'm paying SHOULD be $1010, correct? (i-485 fee + biometrics fee)

Need some direction here..

Mummm, that's a good question... Does it say so on the USCIS website? Try looking in the I485 info section and see what they say about the fee...

I mean, if you send it but they receive after the 23rd, I wouldn't be surprised that they ask for more money... Let's say you mail it on the 19th and they don't issue a NOA1 before the 25th, for exmaple...

I don't know, someone else might want to add to that....

Hey everyone. I havent been online lately. My soon to be sister inlaw and I have had a heck of a time trying to find her a nice simple brides maid dress. We finally found one yesterday, after 3 days of searching. Now my sisters van has broke down and she doesnt know if it'll be fixed in time to come to my wedding :( Which means I am out five members of my wedding party ( my sister is my maid of honor. brother inlaw is a grooms men, one niece is a Jr. brides maid and the other is a flower girl, then my nephew is a Jr. grooms men. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong with this wedding planning. Our minister (a friend of the family) had a stroke the other day and now we are not sure if he can marry us or not. Its been a really big headache planning our wedding. I am hopeing that my sister and her family will make it.

I am glad to see everyone is doing well. Valerie I am so glad you are alright. What a rocky start you guys had. Glad you both made it home safely.

J & J is getting married today  Congrats J & J cant wait to hear how everything went for your wedding :D

Life is like a roller coaster. Hold on tight and enjoy the ride!

Hey guys, sorry, no beach wedding, I was gonna do it, but what happens is that everyone was like don't, and i'm like why and they're like cause everyone who does it says that it's the worst experience as it's always so windy by the ocean that everything flys around. Lol.

But i'm enjoying myself here, where it's summer 365 days a year. Hope everyones process is going great... marriage count down is not officially 13 days.

Sorry I haven't been online as much lately... and why would anyone go against a beach wedding? Is it what YOU want? If so then do it. We had our ceremony along the St. Lawrence Seaway which is a very windy place on Sept 25. It was windy and chilly but I didn't even notice. I was so happy in our moment I felt warm and didn't even think that it was under 20C out. Please don't let other people tell you how to have your wedding... it's not their wedding.

See profile for our K-1 Visa/AOS story from 2010-2011Apparently we love USCIS/NVC so much we left and are doing it again! This time giving IR-1 a whirl. Rock on immigrators.

I believe the $1010 covers AOS, EAD and AP (and biometrics of course). It's what I submitted and I never got a RFE for it (they are usually quick on that hehe)

I know the feeling! Hopefully she can just rent a car and come to the wedding... it's a pretty simple choice to make to me but I don't know the situation. Everything before the wedding can and will get so crazy. The most important thing is to not let yourself stress out and delegate what you can with who you trust. As much as it sucks now it's all part of the experience and the moment the wedding begins you'll forget all about it!

... and one last post in this favorite thread of mine while I am here haha... biometrics appointment was as easy as pie of course. They aren't kidding when they say it takes 5 mins. Drove over an hour to get there to pay for parking which put a whole 0.50c hole in my pocket LOL. The only weird thing is they make you take all your earrings out. One of mine (tragus, little piece of the ear that is technically part of your face) doesn't come out so I had a moment of panic but the girl said it's no big deal. She was the same age as me about (25) and had the same glasses. Pretty weird!

As for my case status. Last updates on AOS and EAD were on the 9th obv, and AP was last touched on the 22nd of Oct, which was when my notice was mailed out I think. I have a friend who lives near me from Russia who is going through the same thing and filed in Sept. She has her interview for early Dec in Buffaol (weird because thats not this areas office) and has no results about her EAD or AP. I really hope I get my AP before Christmas to I can go hope, and my EAD so I can get EI and start looking for work and get more money for prezzies. My husband as leave in Jan and we were hoping to take our honeymoon then since they didn't let him take time off after the wedding.

She cant afford to rent a car but hopefully my aunt will bring her when she comes up for the wedding. I'm not sure what day my Aunt and Uncle are coming up, so my sister and everyone might miss the rehearsal for the wedding. That would be fine tho. As long as they make it here for the wedding. My fiance would go pick them up if we had a car big enough to fit everyone but we dont :( not that he can take any more time off work anyways but still if he could we would go get them. My soon to be mother inlaw has been helping a lot with the wedding, she has really been there for me and I am so thankful for her. I know on my wedding everything will be good, just getting to that part is stressful lol

Good to hear that the biometrics is easy. I wonder why they make you take out your earrings. I will be sure to leave mine at home sense they do this. I dont want to lose them. I've never heard of that type of piercing before. What if you have to have an MRI or something and cant have any metal in your body??? Can it be removed for that??

I can't have an MRI done anyways because I have screws in my knee. So no worries there haha. The earring can be taken out, we just have been unsuccessful and I don't trust my husband with pliers in my ear (we tried that and it was terrifying). I just need to go to a professional. It was screwed in too well haha once it's out the changeable earrings are easy. It's just the still one I had it pierced with.
