Hi,

My husband and I have just moved to another house. When we filled in our AOS application, we knew that we would move some time later so we just used his parents' home address as mail address. Now I'm thinking if we should inform the Homeland Security about our change of living address before the interview in October. If I do, do I just need to fill in the form AR-11?

Thanks again!

You need to fill out an AR-11, send a copy of the AR-11 to your local office, call the USCIS, and also send in an I-865.

Wow... I didn't know that changing address is so complicated!

roi_aggie,

btw, I wouldn't have known about the address change process if you didn't tell me ( I thought I just needed to fill out one form and mail it to one place).

Thanks a lot for your reply!

No problem... I'm having to do the same thing, so did a lot of previous research!

The three things you have to do, is:

AR-11

Call the USCIS

I-865

Mailing a copy of the AR-11 to your local office is just an extra step that has been recommended by others.

Good luck!

yep, you have to do both, or you'll be completely messed up! The AR-11 does Not change your address on any on-going processes, (no idea why), and this is legally required of the immigrant to notify the USCIS within 10 days of any move.

The I-865 is required of the sponsor, and this Will update any on-going processing, however, its always a good idea to phone USCIS a couple of weeks after you send it to make sure they update your file. Also send a photocopy of the AR-11 With the I-865 so they know its been done.

I would do everything you have been advised to do and one more thing also. In addition, make sure you keep checking the old address because there is no guarantee they will get it right even after you do all this. We did everything you've been told to do and also we made an Infopass appointment to make sure they had our correct address and they still sent the interview notice to the old address! The post office didn't forward it to our new address like they were supposed to either. Fortunately the current resident of our old house called us and told us we had a letter from DHS.
