First, congrats to all the approvals that have happened over the past few days (Yay Saylin)! I haven't kept up for a bit and I'm glad to see approvals going through. I thought I would give a quick update and let you know that my case finally got to the NVC. My case was from TSC and from NOA2 approval to me getting an NVC number was a little over 30 days. I got approved on December 23, so Christmas Holidays, New Years Holidays, and MLK day are all in there. So hopefully it won't take quite so long for you recent and future approvals. I called NVC today and provided both my email address and my wife's email. I was told that I should receive my invoice very soon. Also, I did receive an email update from USCIS stating that they sent my case to NVC on January 21, 2011. Just passing along my experience to sort of let you guys know what to expect. Good luck to all!

-Michael (sorry, no creative alias )

That's great! As impatient as I am for an approval, I'm equally anxious about how long it will take to get from TSC to NVC. It's good to see a TSC transfer make it to NVC successfully in less than two months! Good luck on the rest of your journey!

Hi Guys,

I'm filling out my tax forms using TurboTax and I've filled my W-2 and 1089-T forms. The problem is that my wife still does not have SSN and I don't know how to complete this requirement in the tax forms!!!

Any help?!

And also I've lived in USA just the previous 6 months and I don't have any further tax transcripts, would it make any problem?

Thanks

Since you're married, unfortunately, for the first year until your wife gets to the USA, you will have to fill out the forms by hand. No online program this year. If you decide to do 'married filing jointly', you'll also need to include a W7. It's an application for an ITIN that your wife will need and is sort of like a substitute for an SSN. If you decide to do 'married filing separate', you don't need this ITIN, but instead, in the field where it asks for your spouse's SSN, you write either 'NR' or 'NRA' for Non-Resident Alien.

In our case, my husband will file single only and amend it later.

NR or NRA stands for Non-Resident Alien, it's not a number, it's just to indicate that she doesn't have a number since she's a non-resident.
