My husband already ordered his tax transcripts the week we sent out the I-130 package, so we're good to go, lol.

I think what my husband and I will do is file the 2010 taxes right away in January just in case. It all depends on when we get the NOA2 though and get to the step in NVC when we have to mail the I-864 package out. It could be December, it could be January, or even February. Who knows. But I think filing as soon as possible for 2010 would be the best bet for all of us.

Make sure your husband files 2010 tax as married. He can take the deduction :) and it looks good seeing your name on his tax filings at the interview.

Yes, I'll remember to mention that to him once the time comes. Yay for deductions!

He's already put me on his car insurance and that saved him like $20/month, lol.

And yes, having both our names on something like a tax return is very good.

I already ordered and received the (free) transcripts from the IRS for 2007,2008,2009 and I also ordered for another family memeber just in case. Yes the 2010 will not be ready by that time so we don't send 2010. But when the interview comes around I will take the recent 2010 that I just filed cause the transcripts won't be ready by then for 2010.

So for those who haven't done so, I do recommmend ordering tax transcripts from the IRS. You just call (800)908-9946 the automated answering system and order it. It takes less than 5 minutes.

This seems smart. I have all my transcripts from 2007-2009, but for various reasons, it won't be possible for me (or my joint sponsor) to file until the end of February at the earliest. I guess I will just send as much extra evidence from 2010 as I can, hope I don't get an RFE, and try to have the tax returns ready by the interview.

NVC cannot ask for a 2010 tax return before April 15. So not sending a 2010 tax return before April 15 will not get you an RFE. They might ask for employement letters, W2s and recent pay stubs and whatever else they can think about lol but not for 2010 tax return.

Good to know. I didn't think they would (that just wouldn't seem fair), but lots of people started putting doubts in my mind, and the paranoia started to set in, as it seems to do every five days or so when I suddenly get obsessive about some new thing or another. When this is all over, can I have my sanity back?

When we navigated NVC in February of 2009 we submitted tax transcripts from 2005,2006 and 2007 tax years plus pay stubs for 2008 and 2009 to date. Had no issues at all with NVC. At our interview in May 2009 they did then ask for the completed 2008 tax return. The officer took a look at all of our supporting papers and the tax return but only kept the first few pages of the return.

Good luck everyone.

All right, I just went through LingChe's NVC guide and got together all of the documents that I have, and made a list of the ones that I still need (including forms). I feel much more prepared to go see my husband on WEDNESDAY!!!

So while I'm there, I wanted to get his signatures on the DS-230 and DS-2032. Do you think it's too early for him to sign (and DATE, specifically) these forms? I guess I could just have him sign them, bring them back with me, and date them later. But I don't really want to do that. I also don't want him to have to pay $40 to FedEx them to me when we finally need to submit them!

What do you guys think? What are you doing in this regard?

I hope that I can file my taxes ASAP in 2010...my 2009 income meets the requirements, and my 2010 does, of course (I have pay stubs), but my 2007 and 2008 incomes are embarrassingly pathetic! Ha ha ha.

Then again, I REALLY hope that my NOA2 comes SOOOO fast that it will be impossible for me to file my taxes in 2010 before navigating NVC!!!

Well I can't be much help. I'm pretty sure my husband and I will be opting in for electronic processing so no mailing needed.

And I hope for the very same thing! If we get to NVC by the end of December, no possibility of filing 2010 taxes :D
