HI GUYS!

I have a quick question..does anyone know if its ILLEGAL for a PERMEANT RESIDENT (3 yrs now) to ask local citizens if they have signed a voters registration form? I only ask because its a job that is paying me money to go knock on local residents door(s) to get them to VOTE by SIGNING a VOTERS REGISTRATION CARD.

Is this illegal for me to do so because I am a PRC holder?

I am not 100% sure, but as long as you don't register to vote then you should be OK.

That's fine. So long as you don't register to vote or misrepresent yourself as a USC.

NO, only if you try to register to vote yourself or do vote yourself or if you send in campaign contributions yourself from your personal account to a candidate while a GC holder. Provided what you are doing is only a legal function of your job.

Kjan-No, it is not illegal for a permanent resident to have a government job, which duties include asking others to vote...

Though I do find it odd that you yourself are asking others to vote, while you yourself cannot vote....

How can you convince others to vote, if you yourself can't vote due to immigration status?....

Really, this is going to be a hard convincing job to do on your end to get people to vote......

How can you sell a product/service that you yourself has not used before?.....

I blame the government on this one, for taking advantage of permanent residents in order to get something that they can't even get their own citizens to do.....Sigh...

Lol..If the government gives permanent residents the right to work at jobs that require asking others to vote, shouldn't they give these workers the right to vote too, so that they can convince other citizens to do the same.....

Nevertheless, I'm sure that you do a good job in convincing other US Citizens and you have good intentions there in wanting others to vote, and I'm glad that you are doing what you need to do...

As yes, more people out there need to register to vote...So more power to you, in order to convince others of such..

Though one thing you should do AFTER you get citizenship: SIGN A VOTER'S REGISTRATION CARD!

Good luck at your job and I wish you all the best there. Good luck with the rest of your journey too..

I think this is wrong. GC holders cannot register to vote or pose as citizens, of course, but they can contribute to political campaigns. See: http://www.fec.gov/pages/brochures/foreign.shtml
