No, but it's mandated by most states. I know it's hard to believe but Texas does require us to attend school.

:bonk: Lets avoid confusing people here with stereotypes. LOL

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I was quite alarmed at the number of vaccinations my son had to have before he could attend school, he was up to date with all his required UK vaccinations. Once we started with the immigration process he had 5, once we arrived in the US he had a further 3 before they accepted he was fully covered, in the UK he would have only had his Diphtheria, tetanus and polio booster at age 13 and that would have been it. It seems to me that more 'boosters' are given in the US. I thought it was complete over kill.

ETA..Vaccinations are not mandatory to attend school in the UK, I also found it quite a shock that it was here.

I wasn't. My son only needed one more thing in order to attend school. Non vaccination is becoming an issue in UK schools and if it continues to do so I don't think making it mandatory is off the cards - however I don't think there has ever been the 'cult' of parents worrying about autism from vaccinations in the UK, probably why that Dr ended up in the US to carry on his life's work after he was struck off in the UK.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Maybe there should be a Constitutional amendment claiming all children to the age of 18 have a right to a quality education.

Then some people can cherry-pick that too.

The catch is for it to be written tricksy.

Oh and vaccines too, make them optional by the Constitution.

It's amazing how many Constitutional experts there are. At last count I think it was 320 million? But only 9 get the final say.

I'm a firm believer in vaccinations despite my eldest son being diagnosed with autism in the 80's, he was part of the first generation to recieve the MMR, although I am not convinced personally that it was responsible. After living in the US I have come round to the idea of mandatory vaccinations, although at first I found it appalling, it just sits uncomfortably with me.

Anyone that loves their children likely would be apprehensive about injecting things into their kids that don't produce immediate results. Its normal to do so.

I did not know that, and I apologise. My post does seem antagonistic - I guess I am coloured by my belief that vaccinations do so much more good than any potential harm. However, individuals are harmed by vaccinations, even if autism can't be scientifically linked to that harm.

I've heard this before and believe that even 60 Minutes devoted a segment to the topic. So there is risk involved.

Oh no apology expected at all! Like I said I too am a firm believer in vaccinations, each subsequent child was also given the MMR despite my sons condition. The reason I calmed down eventually about the mandatory vaccinations for school age children was experiencing the US healthcare system, I assumed that vaccinations were not given free therefore can see that perhaps many more children would be left unvaccinated without the mandatory stipulations...if that makes any sense.
