Hi Everyone!

I'm just abaout to start getting my paperwork together but I wanted to ask - do I need to change my name on my passport (to my married name) before I file my I-130?

You don't have to unless you want to. In Colombia it is a huge issue to change the name on your passport because in order to do so, you have to start with changing your name on your birth certificate. So, we then choose to use our maiden name in Colombia, passport and all, and our married name here in the US.

need to ? no - is no 'regulation' about this -

some do, then find it 'a great thing' later, as the visa stamp name and passport name and later green card name all match - so isn't any hassle when buying international airline tickets ...

when coming across to a SSA office here, first time, if 'visa name' shows the married name, then the SAVE database should show the married name as well, so any SSA employee can issue 'that first ssn card' in yer married name - so, imo, is less hassle with ssa office.

but - need to ? nah - is not any 'need' to do this.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
