also shot the .40 cal and my co-worker's .45 pistol. the below was at 10 yards, 10 rounds .40 and 8 rounds .45

pistol.jpg

don't know where 3 rounds went, but hit it 15 times (top of bullseye is 2 hits same hole).

look closely ... the other 3 rounds were also 2 hitters ... :innocent:

:secret: at least that is the story you're supposed to tell ....

nice shooting ... reminds me that i need to shoot more too

latest installment. verifying zero on the 30-06's

at 100 yards, 3 power. high flyer on the upper left, that was first round out for the day

just slightly larger than a quarter. still not bad for a gun that's about 70 years old.

model70100yards.jpg

at 100 yards, 4.5 power. those 3 are covered by a quarter

fired the ar again today. had some fits with it - couldn't hit paper at 100 yards so i went to the 50 yard range. had to borrow a target from another shooter as i had no idea where i was. turned out i was still too high.

ar50yards.jpg

at 50 yards, no magnification (holographic site does not magnify)

first round is the arrow pointed at it - was aiming at the center neck. made adjustments, next 3 grouped in the red circle while aiming at the X in the center of the head. had to depart back to the house due to a furniture delivery, so i'll get the impact down a bit more on my next trip to the 100 yard range.

My old smithie, from years back, told me, "99% of the guns out there are more accurate than 99% of the people shooting them."

there's a lot of truth to that statement.

I shot two boxes of ammo yesterday at the local range, then cleaned my pistols. I feel a lot better for the weekend.

Huzzah!

I was at Gibsonburg, Ohio, teaching folks to shoot steel silhouettes at 500 yards. So much fun to see the bullet path and watch it arc into the target. PING!!!

imagine how tight it could be with good dialed-in handloads.

that's the planned result.

went this past friday to the range - i took the .22 and the ar-15.

i checked the iron sights on the .22 and surprisingly, the iron sights on the .22 were still fairly well on target - after last being adjusted/zeroed in back in 1972. shoots a bit higher than i'd like (1"-2") but that may well be from being unable to see the front sight due to age. it was a choice of see the rear sight and the target with the front sight being blurry, or see the front and rear sight and the target was blurry. i went with the first choice. :ranting:

checked the zero on the 4 power scope on the .22 and it needed a bit of adjustment (last sighted in back in 1986), the top center small target is the .22 now at 50 yards. the red circle with the number 8 in it is just over 1" across, for a reference to shot groupings.

shot the ar some also. after shooting the .22, i was a bit surprised at how much the ar was kicking. then yesterday i figured out why - i had the stock collapsed while shooting :bonk: my shoulder is still a bit sore from that.

got the ar almost where i want it, the below is also at 50 yards with the holographic sight (no magnification). i shot the left one first, the top center one second (the dot on the holographic sight just about covers up the small targets), and the right hand one last.

ar17aug12.jpg

there was a couple out there trying to shoot a .22 with iron sights to 100 yards - and they couldn't figure out why their groupings were all over the page!
