It's not the hard to have a discussion and not attack posters.

Must not be that easy for you.

That's not an attack but a legitimate question. Who wastes their time scheming to take others they dislike or the mods down?

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I burned some books one time. They were Army regulation manuals and I was freezing my azz off.

i always found them best for curing insomnia.

Why not? How else are we all to come to some understanding?

I'm Catholic, I'm not offended by this thread. I find it to be a factual report of something you read..

I'm actually not offended by the Catholic priest one either.

I see most of the Muslim threads in the same light. Harsh, sure, true, maybe yeah...bigoted? Slanted? yes no.

Do you see where I'm coming from?

Fixed that for ya.

They may be harsh, but the ones I've seen are based in fact. Just like the Catholic priests diddling kids. It's awful, we wish it didn't happen, but it does. Pretending it's just a slanted article is a bit of a silly way to approach it.

No pretending involved. When the article is written up and posted from one point of view only, that's not journalism. It's propaganda.

Ok, so all the atrocities committed in the name of Islam didn't really happen, it's a case of bad journalism.

Gotcha.

I've had posters try to set me up to be banned. More than once. Aj's even been one to warn me about them. Others, I discovered on my own.

Yet strangely enough these same posters are now masquerading as your buddy. ####, they are up to some scam

It's pathetic that anyone would waste their time trying to set someone up or a mod. You and I agree on some things and strongly disagree on others. I [nor you I believe] would waste time reporting or crying. Let alone following each other around in every thread and planning to attack one another. It's called a discussion.

It's just bizarre that the same people who claim all of the liberal open-minded bullcrap, have such a tough time having actual discussions. And without turning it personal.

AJ - you did a disservice to VJ members - you didn't post the rest of the article, only the attention getting controversial introduction:

"Apart from the Church’s apparent confusion about how to spell the name of the Muslim holy book, Terry Jones, pastor of the church, seems to harbor a vehement hatred for the faith:

“We believe that Islam is of the devil, that it’s causing billions of people to go to hell, it is a deceptive religion, it is a violent religion and that is proven many, many times.”

Jones, like many cult leaders, makes wild claims that are not usually founded or proven. It has been pointed out by many opposing his koran burning proposal that it is a wholly irresponsible suggestion that will most likely lead to people being killed. That can hardly be considered a Christian act.

In Gainesville, Florida where the church is located, religious leaders have come together to oppose the planned koran burning. They are planning a Gathering for Peace, Understanding and Hope as their response to Jones’ International Burn a Quran Day.

“We feel compelled to raise our voices to proclaim that the action the Dove World Outreach Center is proposing is absolutely wrong and counter to the life and teaching of the Jesus whom we love, follow and call savior and Lord,” said Dan Johnson, senior minister of Trinity United Methodist Church.

The Gathering for Peace, Understanding and Hope, to be hosted by Trinity Church on September 11th, will include Muslims, Jews and Hindus, as well as Christians.

“Our goal is to foster understanding, mutual respect and peace, while recognizing and appreciating our own particular faith understandings,” Johnson said.

Speaking of the Dove World Outreach Center being denied a burn permit for their proposed International Burn a Quran Day event, Bob Woods, spokesman for the City of Gainsville said, “It was a question of public safety. The Gainesville Fire Department has notified the center through a letter.”

The Dove World Outreach Center’s website has a section entitled, Ten Reasons to Burn a Koran. A careful reading of the “reasons” suggest that they are more a rant by Jones than a reason.

Book burning has taken place throughout history. The Nazis famously had one in Germany in 1933, and while the Dove Outreach Center says on its website, “We are not, like the Nazis, stealing books, destroying properties or harming any people,” they unfortunately are likely to be wrong.

Heinrich Heine, a nineteenth century German Jewish poet wrote: “Dort, wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man am Ende auch Menschen.”

It translates into English as: “Where they burn books, they will also ultimately burn people.”

It is interesting to note how quickly this thread, as well, diverted from its original topic to become another discussion about who has the better view of the truth and how that truth must be painted in terms of black and white (not skin colours but points of view, just to make that clear).

If posters in OT would accept the responsibility to observe and honour the TOS that they agreed to when they joined VJ, then we wouldn't end up with endless discussions of personal agendas, hidden motivations and trying to disguise one point of view as something entirely different, and I wouldn't be in another thread telling people to stop the personal attacks, stop the insults and stop the baiting.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Quite simple actually my good friend. Since we cannot get on a bus and see these places in person or together, within the scope of a forum, streetview is a great tool to analyze areas; when discussing areas.

Charts on the other hand are also a great tool to illustrate a point, since within the scope of a forum, I am not going to post a 20 pages thesis to illustrate a point.

What it is with you guys is that you set the goals and dare me to score, assuming I cannot make it. Then when a champ like me kicks the ball, you move the goal posts and claim I missed it. It's why without insults, seldom has anyone actually proven me wrong. Sure as hell claim I don't know what I am talking about, just a little anemic on the facts to support your view.

The latest tactic and easiest to use are labels like bigot and racist; as they can be used in pretty-much any situation and require little evidence to support these claims - just opinion.
