4 Years in Daycare Generally Costs More Than 4 Years of College

I took care of my kids as a stay at home until they entered school and after that my aunt took care of them after school(my aunt lived closer to the school than my mom). Now that my kids are older and they now have a stepmother who is a stay at home, they just go to their dad's after school. I never had to do daycare, thank goodness. Now if I were to have another child I may have to do daycare because my aunt is no longer with us, my mom's health is not the best. She could do an occasional few hours here and there but not full time day care. I also agree with the poster who said that many of the grandparents who would normally babysit are now back in the work force or maybe never left yet.

I wonder whatever happened to Grandmas watching kids. My mom & grandma always took care of my kids ... when I started paying for them to go to preschool when they were 3, my grandma got upset and thought it was because I didn't like how she was taking care of them I explained it was because I wanted them to socialize with other kids and learn some stuff and that she could still take care of them

I guess I got lucky, or maybe it's just the way my family is, we are very close.

I don't see anything wrong with daycare at all, I was just wondering why grandparents don't generally take care of their grandkids anymore... any ideas?

OK that makes sense. It seems like between more moms at work, moving away from family and grandparents working longer, those are some major reasons.

The boys stayed with my mom or my grandma while I worked, and now me & my husband have worked it out so I work days and he works overnights so one of us is always with the baby. Also, my mom takes care of the baby and the boys for 2 hrs every morning before he gets home from work.
