I can accept the "payment for services rendered" argument, but a tax refund is still *my* money refunded back to me, not someone else's or government's money/assistance.

its not your money. its money you owe the federal government that they're letting you keep. it's money you wouldn't have had you not had the deductible. it's government assistance.

Wrong. I'm letting the federal government keep some of my money, not vice versa.

If it wasn't for me (the taxpayer), the federal government would have no money. Zero.

:secret: it's money you'd have if you didn't have kids.

With an attitude like that in 1776, we would still be under British rule.

I wonder whatever happened to Grandmas watching kids. My mom & grandma always took care of my kids ... when I started paying for them to go to preschool when they were 3, my grandma got upset and thought it was because I didn't like how she was taking care of them  I explained it was because I wanted them to socialize with other kids and learn some stuff and that she could still take care of them

I guess I got lucky, or maybe it's just the way my family is, we are very close.

I don't see anything wrong with daycare at all, I was just wondering why grandparents don't generally take care of their grandkids anymore... any ideas?

We've been lucky to have grandmas taking care of the baby until now. But he will be starting daycare 3 days a week in a few weeks. The annual tuition full-time *is* more than many universities. I figure if we can swing it now, college won't be any trouble.

I see what you're saying and I agree. But all the same, if the government takes less money from you when you do something, it's a fair argument to say they are subsidizing it. Whether or not you agree with the word assistance, which has some connotations, the government is still giving a financial advantage to people with children in daycare.

every year the media gleefully reports that if a woman were paid to maintain the household her salary would be over 80000 dollars.... owners of daycare operations heard it loud and clear!

grandma watched me and my brothers. i would have rather had my mom at home though.

the govt, over time, has taken the place of family. this is why it is so easy withdraw from family because these day people depend on govt. people talk of how families in 3rd world countries are so tight... it is because they don't have govt to take the place of family. families do argue and fight in 3rd world countries, but they know they need to come together for nothing else is available. in the US, not the same.

it's a l-o-n-g commute to drop the kids off a grandmas house ...

to put it in "one way" miles ... +1k to my mom ... +5k to my wifes mom ...

we'd need to get up really early to drop the kids off so we could get to work on time ....
