Hello there!

So my story is that I am a Canadian and will be marrying my American guy soon. He lives in California and I live in Toronto. We've been together for over a year and are getting tired of all the travel back and forth (as I'm sure many of you can relate!)...

He's a full time student still and I work full time for a bank here in Toronto, its a good job but I am open to working elsewhere eventually.

Our plan is that we get married and I sponsor him to get his residency in Canada first since I am more established here. Then eventually I go through the process of getting my green card so I can go down there to live for awhile.

So many questions and things I've heard from others and read on these forums...but I guess my main question is when we are ready to apply for my green card, do I have to be living in the US? Can we apply while in Canada, while I'm working here and he's either in school or working here in Toronto? I guess that's a good question to start.

Any pointers would be appreicated!

When you are ready, you will NOT have to be living in the US. When it's time, your then husband will petition for you to move to the US. He can petition for you at the local consulate because he'll be a legal resident of Canada by then.

Take a look at the guides I posted for you. welcome to VJ. Good luck
