Do you have to have proposed to your fiance?

My Fiancee and I are engaged in the sense that we have decided to get married, but I have not proposed to her officially. The last time I met her, I was unable to propose because I didn't have the ring and I was planning on going back to the Philippines before filing for the visa. But we decided to file ahead anyways. Just a little background, we've been together for almost 6years. We met in college and we've been together since 1st year.

My question is how important is actually being engaged? I mean, is the proposal really important during the interview process? Do they want to see an engagement ring on her finger or would it be okay to say that I didn't propose officially, but we have decided to get married. I just submitted my K1 application and my fiancee voiced her opinion that she is afraid that the CO will ask her about the engagement ring/proposal and she doesn't want to say I didn't propose.

What do you guys think? Thanks

Honestly....if you two decided to get married, in my opinion you are engaged then lol I hope you understand what Im saying...I dont think it is important for one part of the couple to actually "propose" to the other part...you know the whole popping the question thing...me and my husband did just as you did, we decided together that we wanted to get married, I dont even have an engagement ring lol since where im from the woman usually doesnt get an engagement ring i dont have a problem with it either...we wear our wedding bands, are married, love each other...even without one of us having proposed to the other...

so my opinion is...it doesnt matter if neither one of you has proposed to the other...what counts is you both want to get married (to each other of course lol)

You sign a letter of intent to marry in the application process. That is a formal recognition of engagement. Engagement is nothing more than the agreement to marry, insofar as immigration is concerned. Culturally we have these traditions like the ring. Mine was through my nose, with a chain tied to her nether region.

You can probably pick up a pretty inexpensive ring or find one a relative has in a box from great grandma hoositwhat or something until you can afford something else. I would try to do that because the ring is an outward sign to other potential suitors to back off.

As long as they see that your relationship is genuine, then, no need to show them an engagement ring. There are other proofs that can show how genuine a relationship is.

The CFO will ask you how you guys met.

As for the ring, I just got a simple ring to my fiance (wife now) when I proposed.

My 2rd trip back before the interview I gave a more flattering ring with a stone.

Good luck.

EDIT EDIT... Disregard the post above..............

For our interview, the CFO will ask you how we met. Being a beneficiary, its important to know that your petitioner has intentions of marrying you.

As for the ring, I just got a simple ring to my fiance (wife now) when I proposed.

My 2rd trip back before the interview I gave a more flattering ring with a stone.

Good luck.

BTW, the ring is important, not important like it has to be a 1 carat ring or something expensive, but just having a ring.

It's important for the woman that is. Its a symbol.

When we did our interview in USEM, every beneficiary was wearing a ring.

Hope this helps.
