I am traveling from the US to Thailand this coming November, to marry the woman I love. I am going to start the IR1/CR1 Spousal Visa process immediately after that while still in Thailand. Is there anything I can be doing from now until November concerning this process? I have kept copies of all the e-mails that we write everyday and hopefully I an getting all the phone records of all the calls I have made to her in the last 4 months and the to November. There must be something I can do now?

hey :)

First, I think you should check with the US Embassy in Thai to see if you'll need a "permission to marry" document from them, since u'll be marrying outside the US. That document is usually issued by the embassy there.

Then, you and your future wife can start gathering all necessary dox for the IR1/CR1 package u'll be sending to the USCIS - you might want to check out this link here : I-130 Step-by-step guide ...

When you have everything ready you send the package to the USCIS and the waiting begins! :P

Good luck!

Hope I helped! :)

There is no permision to marry document required. Look over the forms & you will find a few areas that need her signature & address in Thailand written in Thai. She can do that while you are there.

Translations are required for any documents submitted. Type translation into the search block above on the right. You will find an example of how this can be done by anyone competent to do so. You can have that done while in Thailand for free or pay a ton for an service to do it.

Find on Amazon, Thailand Fever. Ask her to find & buy in Thailand. Many book stores carry it there. Written 50% in Thai & 50% in English. You will see how it can help you both. Our culture needs to be respected & understood as does yours. This book is a good tool for that. You both could read it now & generate questions based on the different chapters to pose to each other. To me this is better than common emails.

In my own case we didnt present any pictures or emails ect & were not asked about that subject at all. The difference in that time & this may be that my husband was standing at the window with me which isnt possible now at the interview. The process is different for K 1 people. They have a different need to prove the relationship than married people.

Thailand is unique in the methods of the embassy. Beware of info that isnt specific to Thailand.

You sure about that? I had to go to the embassy and get that document. This was back in 2006, but the Amphur required that document.

Laugh. Can always count on you to dig it up. I shouldn't be so lazy. But there it is in black and white. The OP will need to go to the Embassy.

I should have said that in my own experiance ( 07 ) it wasnt required. I didnt need anything from the Amphur. Actually in my 35 years in Thailand I never heard of this until now. After reading what you have to say I think its a good idea to email the embassy to ask. Thailand is so strange that you never know what the rules are at times.

Ha! I was right! :P Jk... But as far as I know, for most countries, the USC needs to get this document and it is presented either at the civil ceremony or when u reserve ur wedding day! :)

Better yet, ask the Amphur. Also you'll need to go to the MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) on Chaeng Watthana to register with those folks. Not sure why I had to do that.

I was trying to get a Thai Non-Immigrant O visa. I had to fly to Singapore and apply at the Thai embassy there. But I got a 1 year multiple entry Non-O for Thailand.
