So what is it exactly that they DO do with K-1 petitions at NVC? Do they run checks on the beneficiary? From the info I found on this forum it appears that all they do is enter the K-1 case into their database and mail it to the embassy.. Does anyone have a definite answer or maybe can point to a source of info?

Thanks

Andy

Aside from assigning a case number, name/security checks are are also conducted at NVC prior to sending to the consulate. You can find links in my signature.

Copied from a previous post

Name/Security checks are a normal process with NVC/consulates but the wait time at NVC is generally not too long as cases can and will be forwarded to the consulate prior to the name/security checks being cleared. Administrative processing usually refers to a legally mandated security check the Department of State (NVC) must do for all applicants/beneficiaries over the age of 16. The length of time one can be held up in administrative processing will vary as some countries are subject to closer scrutiny. The process normally takes four to six weeks but as I said it can be much longer. Fingerprints are sometimes required at consulate level but this is all a part of the initial administrative processing that began at NVC. Once an interview is held a visa will not be issued until/unless clearance has been received. In most cases (again dependent of country), administrative processing will be completed and clearance granted well before an interview is even held.

thanks for the info aussie cos i was wondering what the NVC did besides assign the case number.

You are welcome. Just wanted to add....just as with the service center if there is no name hits or security issues re country of the beneficiary or occupation etc, then the time it takes is minimal. This is noted especially when a file is forwarded within days to the consulate, instead of weeks or months.
