Old Testament stuff. Jesus endorsed some parts of the Old Testament and superseded others. Things like the 10 commandments he endorsed. BS like stoning people that commit adultery he overturned and through his life he rewrote other things like burnt offerings. The main theme of his life is forgiveness and tolerance.

He loved everyone but did not tolerate sins of his followers; he loved everyone and showed compassion and love to all saved and sinners and offered forgiveness to all sinners and the saved that asked for it.

No matter what sin you have or had committed if you sought forgiveness through him you are saved and your past sins tolerated through his compassion.

Please show reference to where in the new testament he showed tolerance of sinners continuing to sin?

Most "christian" (little C on purpose) schools are in business to make money, not to instill values so I'm sure they'd have no problem admitting this kid. However, some churches have a "no gays" policy and stick to it across the board. Church divisions are pretty varied and there's really not one "Christian" policy in the US.

Right. So the parents surely do have a right to complain about being on the receiving end of prejudice. The school doesn't have to change it's rules, but the parents have every right to draw attention to it.

However, if the school is making the "discrimination" based on a religious belief, they may be protected to do so.

It's a fine line either way and like I pointed out in my previous posts, many of these same "hardline" Christians who take such a firm stance on "the gays" are sitting there with a divorce or two under their belts, have kids out of wedlock, or lived in "original sin" for several months prior to their "holy" matrimony.

The Harrison's have been refunded their application fee of $100. They said they found a non-religious school for Olivia to attend and made sure the school was okay with same-sex parents.

I think parents should have every right to create maximum publicity about anything that happens at schools. Get involved! More power to them.

However, I think for them to claim surprise and intolerance is somewhat of a stretch. The fact that they want to pay to have "Christian" values instilled in their child while simultaneously living a gay lifestyle shouldn't be a surprise when denied by a church that doesn't endorse a gay lifestyle.

The point was, if (and we are none of us in a position to definitively make the determination) they had no reason to suppose that this christian school held intolerant views towards lesbians because many, many christian organizations welcome same sex couples into their fold, why should they not be surprised when the school rejected their application? Not expecting them to be surprised is down to believing that they deliberately chose a school they knew would reject them and did the whole thing for publicity (which to be honest there is no evidence for, this article isn't exactly some sensational tabloid piece). Suspecting them of simply doing it for the publicity with no real evidence that they did is evidence of bigotry towards same sex couples because there is no reason to suppose that a same sex couple courts publicity any more than any other couple.

A quick google search of "episcopal church gays" leads to several websites that pretty much say it's a no-no.

They should've went in with at least a general idea that being denied based on their sexuality was at least a possiblity, especially when wrting "mommy and mommy" on the application.

Maybe they did, but how does that stop them from being genuinely disappointed at the outcome? I'm not getting why writing 'mommy and mommy' is some kind of barrier to the enrollment, they are both mommy - or would you have preferred they said mommy and legal guardian or something like that? I don't see that as a big issue.

The issue is they walked in and said, "Hi, we're gay and we're here to enroll our kid in your Episcopal Christian school."

To claim they're surprised at being denied would be like me applying for the NAACP spokesperson position and then claiming "I'm surprised they didn't pick me." I should have a general idea going in that I might not be their first choice.

These women should've known going in their sexual orientation may cause a problem.

Actually the Episcopal church has been divided by the issue of gay couples being members of the church.

There are some that are splitting from the mainstream Episcopal doctrine and redifining the meaning of the scriptures to mee their believes.
