And your point is? "Gringo" is not offensive. The recent user misused the term. What is the big deal, si man?

It's not only used towards Americans just FYI. In a lot of instances if you're a latino with blonde or have light hair or skin you can be called that. Also if you move to the US and then come back to your country you can be called a gringo. If you're the child of a latino and are half American you'll probably be called that too

Fair enough, I totally accept that I previously had no clue as to the nuances with which gringo can be used within the latino community, I simply took it as a term that people from within the latino community used to describe someone from the American community.

My final thought on all this is that although saying a non spanish speaker (or non latino, whatever) can't use the word gringo is totally OTT (and was deliberately used that way for the purposes of this thread), I would suggest that it is totally meaningless for one to do so given Susita's explanation. What defines a 'gringo' seems to that if you are from the latino community you use it to describe some relationship with the person being called one to having spent time in, or having features that a mexican would ascribe to Americans - lightness of hair/skin etc (yes, I am aware that this is a stereotype of Americans). A non native of America who has no connection with the Spanish/Latino community applying it to someone who is is just totally incongruous at best.

BY is of course right that there are people who use terms like convict in an attempt to demean him because of being Australian. I wouldn't be surprised if someone who consistently provokes BY in this way is warned and censured appropriately.

Anyway, moving on, time to clean up the hate speech in OT ;)

The issue isn't the meaning of the word "Gringo" it's the fact that it the context of the reported post it was used explicitly at a hispanic VJer. Bigoted/Racist intent belies the meaning of the word.

Pikey logic 101: Gringo is offensive but Convict is not offensive, that's funny. Just don't you dare say the equivalent about AA.

After five years, it' safe to claim both of you are the furthest thing from being impartial [objective] and are basically biased hypocrites. It's why I can count on one hand the number of times I have seen either of you two disagree with one another; which is simply not possible for people who claim to be impartial, open-minded and objective.

Nevertheless, why would I call you Gringo? It's no different to me calling my Arabic friends Habibii. Or should I start calling you that too? Perhaps you feel left out or something. You and your like-minded buddy still have not answered how many times you guys have reported conservatives being attack. Then again, your not going to report yourself now are you.

This is a classic case of grasping for straws, pick a word and deem it offensive. You have done the same thing for years regrading the use of black. In fact, in the very thread you two are complaining about, once again, both you and Cleo brought in posts from three to five years ago. Posts that you misinterpreted, yet claim I meant X. Funny how you give the biggest scum of the earth murderers the benefit of the doubt but cannot refuse to accept people's explanation of their own comments. In fact, you are doing the same thing now with Paul.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Who said that "convict" isn't offensive?

Why is it reasonable to use hispanic slang in reference to hispanic posters?

Does it not tie back to posts you have made before where you've called people "Mayans", "Bowl-cut Incas" and implied that a person's hispanic SO is somehow substandard?

Yeah its all a conspiracy. You're just that special

Who said it was? It's simply a case of you two being pathetic, hence the holding onto posts [grudges] from up to five years ago. Get over it.

You may also want to look at post 70 again, where at the time, I ironically used the same word gringo and even included its meaning [definition] in brackets next to it. And that was a few years ago. Safe to say, for up to two years now, that the Spanish word has meant foreigner to me. Hence it's use in a 'dude' context, to someone that speaks Spanish. Hence, why I would not use it to address someone Japanese.

Yet you and your like-minded buddies repetitively use it but cry foul over Gringo; furthermore, pretend to hold a moral high ground over race. Who are you guys trying to fool? The mods you mock both here and in other private avenues perhaps, certainly not fooling me mate.

This one is a bit of a no brainer. Perhaps you recommend I use Japanese slang with him.

This one is good because you once again bring up things from many years ago. Nevertheless, that was during your peak years of doing exactly what both of you are doing right now; particularly during the old VJ days, when your buddy mods at the time let it slide.

In summary, you basically participate or ignore 101 personal insults, they're funny right, but get outraged the second I fired a cheap shot back at that poster. Without fail, it happened in every single thread back then.

This is the selective outrage I am talking about. Because you guys deem insults acceptable, all is good. Because you guys deem referring to ones background in any manner is offensive, then it's bloody offensive and I should be banned. Naturally, there is an exception to this rule, like the background of any poster you dislike.

Thanks for proving my points though.

Holding onto grudges from 5 years ago?

You're the one who tried to introduce the race/crime discussion into this thread.

No have been epically owned, that is what has happened. Hence post 70, which you are still to respond to.

Oy, after being banned for 24 hours, I am back. I am flattered in a way that Cleo took the time to bring this up, but hey, it's cool... Really, I am not offended by that, it just proves that many of my previous posts may not be that far from the truth.

His MO is simple, he will hit me where he will get a rise out of me: race. Other than that he doesn't know me as a person, and God knows I wouldn't want to be associated with him based on what I've seen. For all he knows I can be a 5ft., unskilled field worker... And that is ok, I don't expect him to change his ways. After all, he is the one that has to deal with himself on a daily basis.

The mods appear to look the other way, because even if it takes two to tango, he was still here yesterday, but ok... What can you do.

Now, for someone that doesn't hold a grudge, he is very good at counting posts."OMG!!! he attacked me on posts 34, 67, 71... and I believe the third line of post 92 is about me".

Wise man said once, no matter how much you want to hide something, it is what it is. I am just gonna lay back and enjoy the rest of the nice folks at VJ.

Why were you suspend then if you did no wrong? Ever since you joined, in what June this year, you have come on and antagonized people who clearly don't share your beliefs. The majority of your posts are filled with clever jargon and witty comments rather than discussing the topic. I've let it slide, yet when I point this out, you then accuse me of "crying to the mods". Cleo on the other hand, seems to have selective outrage as your insults masqueraded as posts do not offend her, just anyone who disagrees with you.

As to your grudge comment, think about the bottom line you posted, now read and think about the context of the post again. It's not a grudge at all, simply pointing out that though those posts contained insults, yet she had no problem with this. Whereas, the use of gringo was offensive. In other words, it basically illustrates that she has double standards based on her opinion of the poster. As you said, "no matter how much you want to hide something," like being biased and hypocritical "it is what it is."
