Boston or New York?

I’m from Boston but I am willing to drive to New York if it means possibly getting a temp work authorization stamp (since I haven’t heard of Logan granting them lately) for my fiancé. However, this does mean like a 6+ hour drive (if I don’t get lost! ). Has anybody here flown into Boston and received a stamp? I’ve also heard that even though they don’t give it at the airport, you can go to the immigration office in downtown Boston and they’ll give it to you there. Can anybody confirm this for me? I mean I can call the office and ask but just want to hear people’s experiences. Thanks!

I think JFK is your best bet. Leave early or make it a trip to the big apple, there's so much to do, if you can spend a night in the city with your fiancee then drive back to Boston the next day. Traffic on I95 is always crazy, always some kind of construction when going through the New England Area, drive safe and enjoy the ride.

Boston does not give the EAD stamp... and no you cant get EAD based on K1 by doing a walk-in at Boston Local office... the only POE that is doing it that I know of is JFK..

Keep in mind that the temp EAD is only valid for 90 days... you have to wait 2 weeks before applying for SSN and it can take 2 - 3 weeks to get the SSN before you can start work... you will them have to stop work and wait for the 1 year EAD that you will file for along with AOS... that can take 70 - 90 days to get...

Ok let me rephrase that.... it is better to wait 2 weeks to apply for your SSN that way your information should be in the SAVE system and you should get your number in about 10 days... if your info is not in the SAVE sysem then they will need to verify your information manually with USCIS and that can take weeks....

Then just over 60 days later, have to stop working, and then wait for the 1yr EAD. The question is... is it worth it to drive all the way to JFK for the temp EAD? The other question is... what job is your fiance going to get, that the employer will hire knowing he can only work for a limited period of time?

The Temp EAD is the one they stamp on your passport at the port of entry (whichever airport you fly into) so there's no waiting time. JFK is the major one that usually/sometimes gives it out.

I think it'll be 2 weeks for SSN (hopefully!) and I've since read elsewhere that you can work with an expired temp ead if you've filed for AOS and EAD. I hope this is right, I'll have to make some phone calls. And maybe even a temp job doing whatever as long as he gets to practice English and gets him used to being out in the workforce.

I'm not sure what you mean by this - all EADs are temporary. None are permanent, they all expire.

It's right only if the employer is not paying attention to when your EA expires.
