Awesome that on VJ hating an entire population of people for the actions of some gets multiple +1's.

One even has a gold star.

I am appalled by the things that DanielParul has said. I know this thread was asking for it, but I still find it shocking. It's not even the VJ garden variety "I know most muslims are ok, but..." It's thrown all concerns about appearing bigoted out the window.

(yes I said the b word)

I'm assuming growing up in India has greatly affected the opinions she shared - I could also be wrong. I am not at all excusing it. But it's also a cultural issue. My inlaws in India have unfavorable views of Muslims and Chinese and other people. They would probably be considered bigoted for certain things. It does make me feel uncomfortable. Things are not so PC in India. There are riots and fights often between Muslims and Hindus over religious sites and bitterness can go from one generation to another. If one has only experienced the negative side of something and hasn't taken time to look beyond that, they will have this kind of world view in my opinion. I hope that they can learn not to blame an entire group for actions of some. If they can't let go of this feeling even after seeing not everyone in one religion is the same, then that is pretty sad.

The opinions expressed are mainstream in India. They're accepted common knowledge.

You mean Parul's? Or that she is writing generalized things?

Her opinions are not out of the mainstream in India. They are very mainstream there.

That's the feeling I got while I visited there. But I don't have as much experience as someone who actually lived there.

You can say what you want. Thats one of the traits of being a Muslim. Twist words to suit your needs.

Why is it that since your religion is such a peaceful & tolerant one that all troubles start from there? Why are all the nations that were once secular or Budhist nations till you were in minority are now Islamic nations? I don't see any tolerance or peaceful intentions anywhere where Muslims gather or live in significant numbers.

That is the unfortunate reality. Almost all conflicts in various countries over the last few decades involve Islam.

  • India/Pakistan
  • Sept/11
  • Bali Bombings
  • Russia/Chechnya
  • Indonesia/East Timor
  • Israel/Palestine
  • Turkey/Cyprus
  • Dafur
  • Serbia/Croatia

Therefore, how can anyone sit there and claim there is not an underlying issue with being able to get along.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

No, they have involved countries that have large populations of muslims - that in no way means that the muslim religion is the driving force behind these conflicts.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

In all of those locations its about land and government. With regards to 9/11, the goal was to pull the US fully into the middle east conflict. Well it worked.
