As for a view in this thread about religions being peaceful or not, I am just going to say that I haven't yet really found a religion that is truly tolerant. I am sure there are some that say truly "anything goes".

I hope my point comes across clear and not confusing. Some people like to act like Hinduism is so tolerant and open minded, I don't agree at all. Some people think the same about Buddhism, I again disagree. About Islam? I don't think of it as the religion of peace and tolerance because I don't really think of any religion totally that way. As for Christianity, my own faith, I would also never say it's purely tolerant.

Religions usually have rules or guidelines in their belief system. When I read Jesus' words in the New Testament, he does teach us to be tolerant to fellow humans. We are even told to love our enemies, be nice to people who are mean to us, give people more than they expect, etc. If we as Christians truly lived as Jesus taught, that would be amazing. Yet he also scolded the religious pharisees who were being hypocrites and wouldn't tolerate their nonsense. And He set high standards for personal moral living. Basically, the intolerance is to be towards our own personal sin. And then he also said clearly, in the Bibles' words, that he was the only way to Heaven. That is intolerant and I don't deny that.

As for whether I think Islam is intolerant, I am sure it has some intolerance or there would be no point of it being different than Christianity or Judaism. Belief systems have rules, and usually portray it as the only real way to accomplish the spiritual goals of life. Why do we have to think a religion is so peaceful and tolerant? We don't.

We should all just get over this whole "such and such religion is tolerant and peaceful only" thing.

Ok, this is embarassing but I am not a hater. I have reported my old account and here is what I have written.

I am unable to login to my old account. I have read a few posts that I have not posted in OT. I am still reading them and they are embarassing to say the least coz I have not posted them. Daniel and I have never been the kind of people to live a bitter life and teach our son everything I am reading here. I am still not finished reading the thread.

I don't know what do you do with an old account you can't access?? Please close it/lock it.

If any of the Indian posters watch Bollywood movies, maybe you should watch "My Name is Khan". Mostly good, partially cheesy, but better than typical love triangles. And an interesting storyline regarding this topic. I know maybe a movie can't change anyone's minds but I know it did make me think even more.

Unfortunately most times I read about intolerance and bad attitudes, it points towards a particular community and I am forced to believe what I see.

Here we go being politically correct again. Burying heads in the sand does not change the fact that most terrorists belong to one specific group. If those who are not are so sensitive about being treated like a terrorist then they need to stop supporting the ones that are terrorists. Until then, thats where we get stereotypes from.
