So I married my wife in July 2008. Filed for a I-130 in September 2008.

In June of 2010 I get a notice of approval for our I-130.

I followed suit with the NVC on affidavit of support, sent all the documentation for the Visa application during June/July.

My wife then gets this email on July 30th that we are missing her birth certificate. Ok we obviously mailed it the first time but I make a phone call anyway to NVC. Now I hear that because she is filling in Taiwan, and her paper is in chinese she might need a translation. Well she was born in Taiwan. The operator was quite dumb. He then filled an inquiry and asked me to call in 2 weeks. In the meantime, we send an officially translated version of her birth certificate. I have been trying to call the NVC but the phone is always busy.

Now what? I guess I am waiting for an appointment date? But for how long? The problem is that my wife is 3 months pregnant and I would like to avoid having to go through this nightmare with my newborn. How long has it been for you guys after you get to this stage?

It takes the NVC about 2 weeks to complete a case after they've received all documentation. After that, they will make an appointment with the embassy during the first two weeks of each month and the date all depends on appointment availability with them. For most countries if the NVC completes a case before the 15th-16th of the month, they will make the appointment for the following month. If they complete it after these date, they will make the appointment for the month after that. But like I said, not all embassies work that way.

Thank you Diana. I just managed to get through the NVC and was told my case is now complete. Hopefully I will get an appointment in October.
