Interpreter for interview

Hello everybody, I would like to ask about your experiences specific to this issue when going to a marriage based AOS interview. My wife speaks very little English, she understand a lot but gets a little confused when trying to answer complex questions. I know she will be nervous during the interview, so this might make the situation and her ability to properly communicate in English a little more difficult. I have read that I can't be the translator, but I have also read about people who have not had a problem being the translator for their spouses.

If you have any experience related to this situation, would you mind sharing? I would really appreciate it.

The immigration officer can refuse to accept a translator if they don't believe they're going to get an accurate translation. They are instructed (in the Adjudicators Field Manual) that interested parties are to be given the least preference. This is why some people are told they can't be translators for their spouse.

You're going to be nervous enough. Bring someone else to translate.

I think USCIS provides interpreter at the time of your interview with no cost ... Check your local USCIS ... I think all you need is resquest an interpreter in advance or before your interview date ... good luck

No they don't. Says on the instructions that you need to bring your own. They MIGHT have someone there that speaks the language but it's rare.

I was checking USCIS home page and yes, that's true they provide accommodation for disabilies only for example american sign language interpreter ... vane&tonny is right .. I was wrong ... nothing to lose calling USCIS to see what happens thanks vanne@tonny for correcting me ...

Thanks a lot for all your comments, we went without a 3rd party interpreter. The IO first let me do some translation but then called for a translator and everything was done over the phone. In and out in a little over 15 minutes, approved and passport stamped.
