Fine, your willingness to make Muslim New Yorkers unhappy just so Hamas isn't happy... is bigotry because it implies the two are necessarily related.

So your willingness to make the victims loved ones unhappy so that the the New York Muslims are happy is bigotry. The hatred that the victims feel for the extreme elements in Islam is not related to how they feel about Islam as a whole.

My point was that shifts in political allegiance occur more often and more rapidly in the general population than do shifts in religious identity.

Regardless there not bigots.

I have to go, until next time.

It's interesting that last sentence is similar to the definition of bigotry. If you are suggesting that it is part of human nature to be bigoted, then why be offended to be called one?

I'm not personally offended, I just find it astounding how the crowd that is screaming 'tolerance' is showing complete intolerance in the views of others.

There are a few individuals on here who have been spending the past couple of days running into threads and saying "you're just a bigot" because they show any type of difference to what those individuals think.

As I said, the sweet irony to it all, is these people cannot call others bigots without being bigots themselves.

Let's not pretend all the opposition to this mosque is coming from 9/11 families. Most of it is coming from bigots. How many of the mosque-opponents on VJ either lost a loved one on 9/11 or are simply worried about the traffic?

From previous questions... the only one here in this website whose stated anything in public to my knowledge that lost a loved one on that day favors building the mosque and finds more pain in the bigotry being promoted by certain people whose limited view of the world is congruous to the terrorists view of America.

Are we pretending the 9/11 families are monolithic in how they feel about this?

Of course it is, because everyone always thinks they are 'right' in their name-calling of other people who are different than they are/share different views.

Instead of just trying to put up a valid argument, instead of trying to point out positive aspects, these invididuals think it's much easier to call people bigots for their opinion and blast them for it. As I said though, that by definition is bigotry as well, so it's really a silly standstill on views. Funny part being, one side is actually debating, the other is just name-calling...

Maybe these arguments in calling out bigots for what they are are... ummm... founded in the nature of the very thing that's getting called out. Words have meanings and significance which you have refused to grant authority to just because you wish to negate said meanings and significance. Such is language and the reality that constructs it.

Yes, those views are exactly what's being debated here- on one side, bigots hiding under other arguments, vs those calling them out with clear logic.

The ones making rational arguments that are not bigoted are few and far between. Its unfortunate you refuse to see this, as ignorance is beyond your pattern here.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

You can't be serious? Part of me thinks you're just trying to troll/stir up trouble.

I mean honestly.

I'm trying to have an honest conversation here and point out things and all you can do at the same time is call people bigots as well.

Just because someone disagrees with something, just because someone thinks that something might be better in a different area, just because someone defends another person's views, does not make that person a bigot. It's beyond ridiculous to think so.

It's not 'calling people what they are.' It's avoiding a debate on the issue. If you think someone is a bigot, then that's your problem, but at the same time you do nothing to help your cause by just name-calling. If you can't actually list positive aspects, if you can't provide evidence to the contrary of the argument, then the fool is the one who's doing the name-calling, not the alleged 'bigot' or whatveer else.

Paul, you need to stop the self-righteous indignation. You and your ilk post some pretty prejudiced things on these boards. I'm not saying that is your default setting, but you do from time to time espouse some pretty bigoted sentiments.

One thing is having a debate using arguments that are honest.

What we have here- and on this particular issue I am not singling you out per se- is a disingenuous display of a consistent refusal to dissociate fact (Muslim extremists, etc etc, are not representative of Islam) from the truth of what is written in plain sight.

One needs to pay attention to the things people say if one wants to form an opinion of said people. So yes, we should all be serious unless we're pranking and that becomes evident after a short while.

Once again, there is no need to cherry pick the argument being used to cover up the fact that bigoted views are being promoted. That is a fail. Once you can state, verbatim, what those logical, non-bigoted arguments are, without being bigoted in the process, then you have an honest debate.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

It sure gives the talking heads (for and against) easy copy to talk about and fill their hour of selling soap, insurance, etc... without having to do much work or other investigation. They are playing us all for foolish fodder in their own Ratings race.
