We can't file for a few months, but I want to make sure I'm getting the right things together. Here's what we have as of right now:

joint bank accounts (checking, savings, a CD)

hubby is beneficiary on my IRA

joint credit card

joint lease

tax returns filed jointly

renter's insurance in both names

both names on same car insurance

gym membership together

some trips we took with both names on reservations

We have pictures and could come up with things showing same address. Wondering if this list looks good to everyone so far?

Also, do we NEED affidavits?

Thanks guys!

LOL, I don't know why my topic title looks so goofy! If any mods are reading, please feel free to fix that! :D

both names on utility statements? That's the only major thing that I see, a missing....

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

affidavits are not required, but if you feel you would like to include them, go ahead and do so. They also do not need to be notarized, but you can get them notarized as well.

both names on utility statements? That's the only major thing that I see, a missing....

We have 3 utility bills, all in my name (primarily). Verizon cell, electric, and internets. He's listed as an account manager or authorized something-or-other on the first 2. Just me on the 3rd. The electric company told us they'd have to close the account and open a new one to add him, and they "don't think" our service would be interrupted.

At this point will it make that much difference? We're about 4 months from filing.

That looks like a good list. Insurance, utility bills (even without joint names, but with the same address listed), lease agreement with both names, etc. should be good.

We're filing in a couple of weeks and we're adding 2 affidavits, but only because we want to. I don't think it's necessary.

Interestingly, we got a reminder yesterday fro USCIS to file to remove conditions. I wasn't expecting that!

I am gathering my stuff as well. RE: the affidavits, I don't suppose they are required, but on the list under "Evidence of the Relationship" in the I-751 instructions, it states "The documents should cover, but are not limited to, the following examples:" and #5 out of 5 is "Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by at least two people..." So I am including 3. I figure it is so easy for a real couple to ask friends and family to write about the couple's relationship, but maybe harder for a green-card marriage couple, so why not include them? Not notarized, just with the information the instructions say to include (date and place of birth, etc.). By the way, it was SO SWEET what my friends and mother wrote! Way richer and more detailed than I had imagined.

RE: the utility bills, I couldn't add my husband to my gas & electric either. Since I had a prior account, they just activated that one again and wouldn't add his name. I did add him to the water bill and the internet (but to his consternation they put his first name and my last name!). He and I have the same mobile phone service, so I printed that as well (AT&T has a page where it shows primary line and secondary lines with our names). Sound like we have about the same amount of joint account info.

The only other things I am including that you didn't list are copies of our joint health insurance policies and copies of our drivers licenses showing the same address.

Good luck to you -
