Hi there,

My wife had her interview in Islamabad on July 8th. She was put on AP and they told her same thing from 2 months to unknown. However, according to Pakistani /Afghani VJ members’ timelines, AP would take anywhere form less than 3 months to max 5 months so far. You can either call Islamabad embassy or DOS(202-663-1225)to check the status of AP.

Take care,

my sister in law also had an interview on this august 3rd and got her passport the 2nd day and its been a week she's here in America. they don't really do background checking on girls but torture guys.

you and I both know why they have to do a background check on ppl migrating from Pak, Iran etc.

And now they do more detailed background test, after NY bombing where the guy was naturalized citizen from Pak.

There is no timeline for it they can take as much time as they want, and even if you get any Senator or Congressman involved I dont think they an do anything when the USCIS claims they are doing the background verification.

So the best option would be hold your patience and wait for the approval.

I am so sorry to hear about this. We are so worried about getting AP... I mean we EXPECT it considering where he is from, but I REALLY don't want to fly back home alone again!

Your VJ "family" is here to help you through this.

And I know how hard it is, but try to be patient.

my husband had an interview in islamabad, pakistan on august 19th and he's been told that there needs to be a check on his background. they took his passport and told him it can take from 2 months to infinity.

can anyone share there experiences in AP and approximately how long can it take???

My husband has been in AP for 2 and a half months. I am so appalled at the lack of accountability and transparency in this process that I started a petition. Why don't you take a look and see if you'd like to sign it? If so, please sign and pass it on to friends and family! American Families United is also active on this issue. They are trying to limit AP to six months, after which the authorities have to review what's going on and come up with a reason it's taking so long. We should support AFU, as well.

Contact me if you want any additional info! Thanks, Susan

I actually think having your representative contact the State Dept. is a good idea. What do you have to lose?

Also, we need to pressure Congress to institute time limits and accountability in this process. American Families United is working on the issue (www.americanfamiliesunited.org) and I think we should all join this group. It's effective, and the only group working on our behalf.

I also have put together a petition that addresses the issue. AFU is calling for a six-month time limit for AP and if the wait exceeds that, they have to review the case and tell us why. I call in my petition for a 90-day timeline (I figure AFU can look like the reasonable ones!) and an overall review of the legal immigration process, with the goal of dropping the entire processing time to six months.

Please sign and pass on to friends and family if you agree! I find it shocking that US citizens can be treated like we're in an overseas CIA prison or something, with no rights. Guilty until proven innocent, essentially.

Thanks,

Susan

The best option is to support American Families United, a group pressuring Congress to set a six-month time limit for AP, with accountability. Also please sign my petition calling for a 90-day limit, and a review of the entire process with the intent of streamlining it to six months. As Americans, we really do have rights. Sometimes it takes a little work to get them.

Right! And we don't do "profiling" in the U.S.

I think most people on here have issues with AFU's objectives, they are more focussed on EWI's.

It is the lack of profiling that causes the net to be spread wide and a lot more caught in it than would otherwise be the case.

I have been in AP for coming up 9 months now. I am a UKC married to a USC and what more have no links to Pakistan or any other middle eastern country.

I have recently hired a lawyer to get to the bottom of this so hopefully we will see how things pan out. It is a very very frustrating situation to be in and it gets more frustrating when people say "sit back and relax it will come when it comes" but honestly thats all you can do to keep yourself sane.

I hope that you all get through AP soon and please keep me in your prayers too!!

There is no time line for AP.

It varies.

Hi,

my name is Nusrat Jahan and I married in July of 2008. My husband had his interview on June of 2009 and since then it had more than two and half yrs and there is no sign of getting a visa. We were not asked to give them any additional documents and there was no problem with our filing. I am very frustrated at this point knowing I have no support from my husband. I am a student and I need help financially and we have been waiting patiently during these past yrs but we are tired of this long AP. I wonder if anyone knows anything that can help us. Please give us some advice. Thank you in advance.
