Muslim worker demands to wear head scarf with costume

Rubbish. Constitutional rights remain valid regardless of what you might sign in a contract. The contract can be deemed unconstitutional or non binding if it violates constitutional rights.

See EEOC v Regency Health Associates 2004

See Webb v City of Philidelphia 2003

There are cases where not allowing employees has been upheld and this case against Disney could well go in favor of Disney. Banning wearing of the scarf is not a denial of right to practice ones religion.

Amendments 1 and 2 are automatically given up in the work place. Try carrying a gun into work and watch what happens.

Oh good grief, and that is relevant how? Correct naked emperor, it is not relevant at all.

What about bigamy? You mean polygamy surely...

That is frowned upon, at least in the mormon tradition because Mormonism is a cult and there are question marks based on historical precedent over the level of consent and of the odious nature of some of these marriages (i.e. old men marrying barely legal teens).

]Enjoying more of that slander and hate-speach?

Since you are the expert VJ Bigot detector... is what you wrote also bigotry?

not according to the equal opportunity employment commission. and an employer as large as disney should be familiar with eoec standards.

See post by me above. It could go either way but my money is on Disney.

IF it is a necessary part of ones religion to wear a headscarf, the religion demands it of its adherents and failure to do so causes distress then I would say it is a denial of the practice of that religion. I have no idea if the wearing of headscarves falls into this, quit frankly I do not really care, but if it does, and it seems quite likely because it is a very ancient tradition, then that would be an integral part of the practice of the religion and a protected right.

Oh, so only "religion" and the constitution are relevant to the work place?

You made the argument that the constitution is relevant in the workplace. I am providing examples for you where it isn't.

If her faith directed her to wear a BURKA should that be her right at work?

More irrelevance, knock yourself out. I have nothing to say to this.

Not entirely true, as I understand it. For instance, if ritual sacrifice of humans is part of my religion, I don't have a right to practice that. If theft were a part of my religion, I wouldn't have a right to practice that. Or, for that matter, if bigamy is part of my religion, I'm not allowd to practice that.

Of course, you're going to defend this because you like to be contrary, but I don't think Disney's too far out of line here. There are probably other, behind-the-scenes jobs that she can take and wear her head covering, but if she wants to wait tables, she'll follow the dress code.

hey how about the pediphile who claimed as his defense that screwing little kids was part of his religion... real life, not a hypothetical :wow::bonk:

couple things i wanted to input were that Disney (and i hate to defend them becasue i am not a disney fan!) did want to give her an adapted costume but asked her to work in back until it was ready (they have their costumes made by a certain company) and little miss demanding refused to work in back.

oh boohoo she didnt want to work in back after demanding this at last minute even though she hasnt worn hijab previously. sorry, i wear hijab but if i were going to spring this on an employer out of the blue i would compromise and give them time to give me adapted costume and work wherever they wanted me to in the meanwhile. they didnt ask her to clean toilets, they asked her to work in back till special costume was made; i think that was very big of them to even consider making special adjustment for her after she was already working there wearing no hijab.

this whole thing peeves me off becasue i hate troublemakers

madame cleo: Yes, you are correct, Jewish and Christian women also cover. But I would argue because you do not understand it (head covering) does not mean it is 'ridiculous'. You ask where in the 'good books' it says to cover then follow that statement with you dont care. So just for the record, for your future reference in case you decide to throw off the religious intolerance, the Qur'an calls for modesty for both men and women and requires that women in particular should not display their beauty. Down the centuries and in many cultures and religions a woman's hair has been considered to be her 'crowning glory'.

People like her really give Muslims a bad name.....

I agree

if you gave your info (receipt #s, full name, etc) to anyone on VJ under the guise that they would "help" you through the immigration journey with his inside contacts (like his sister at USCIS) ... please contact OLUInquiries@dhs.gov, and go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact to report anything suspicious. Contact your congressman and senator's offices as well.

Stop trying to make everything personal.

"personal"... it's not personal for me but you know Mormons outlawed marriaGE TO MORE THAN ONE WIFE MORE THAN 100 yrs ago but you try to slander them as if a few off-shoots are mormonism in general.

I'll ask again- Is what you wrote about them Bigotry?

Yeah no kidding, I respect people who embrace these aspects of their faith (diet, wardrobe)

but how dare these people expect the world to cater to "their calling"?

I suggest these people relocate to places which embrace these practices for the sake of harmony.
